…and when we say "borrow", we’re being generous. As it turns out, the HTC Titan over at XDA has been getting some custom-ROM-love and a new one called 'WPV 8779 Nokia Edition v3' has certainly raised the bar.
The ROM of course requires a full-unlock, something that was achieved a few months ago for those who want to go through the somewhat arduous process. But what makes this ROM interesting is the inclusion of some of Nokia’s platform exclusive apps made to work with the Titan. Such apps include Camera Extras, Counter and Contact Share. That is a fairly nice start even if Nokia would frown upon such practices.
Other additions include a built in XAP deployer for 3rd party marketplaces and some “WP 8 tiles” for some added effect. Full feature list:
- Full Unlock v3.
- Windows Mobile Device Center.
- XAP deployer.
- Nokia Camera Extras, Contact Share, Counter...
- Some WP8 tiles.
- Nokia Ringtones.
- Search key settings.
Overall it’s not too shabby and we may just have to take the time to go load this on our international Titan to see what all the hub-bub is about. If this ROM is of interest, head over to XDA forums for more information. Thanks, rockstarzzz and Linh H., for the link!

I have Nokia music, transit, and drive on my first Gen focus. :)
Care to share a how to? :)
developer unlock your phone, then interop unlock it, once that's done, install wp7 root tools, then edit the registry.
Local Machine->System ->Platform->devicetargetinginfo-> Oem Name
Change Oemname to NOKIA
Then exit, and wait. you have to wait for the server to update on MS's side, so it might take a day or two. you'll then have full access to the nokia store, and can DL any app you want. you can also change to HTC or LG, but i have HEARD if you change too much (ambigous) then it can block your phone. Do it once or twice, no guarantees or promises that won't break it. The nokia store is clearly the best to have though.
Why on earth have they changed the font?
Maybe someone wanted a different font???
Exactly why I hated custom roms on WM
Hard to give up DFT's many features.
I wish they could find a way to unlock the lumia 900
After using a whole load of roms back in the 6.1/6.5 days all I can say is this:
- Sixty pages of posts saying how 'cool' and 'awesome' the rom maker is
- 140 pages of people asking for fixes as their phone doesn't quite work anymore
- 20 pages of people shouting at each other to wait for the next version.
I've experienced ZERo issues with my Titan so thanks but no thanks. Looks interesting though. Stay safe out there.
Haha. I recognise that scenario. :)
I always got good roms and strongly disagree:)
Same thing happens in Android. Android official roms are already buggy. Those custom roms are the worst.
Spot on, sir. Spot on.
Since illl only have my titan for the next two months until I shell our for a wp8 device. I think I'll venture out and do this. Last time I fudged with phones was when I had a blackberry and bootlegged os leaks onto my bb bold 9000.
This ROM is hands down the best you will find on Titan custom list. It makes your phone Lumtan! No faults. All works perfect. Has latest unlock and all DFT features pre loaded too! Has two custom marketplaces for sideloading apps. What's amazing is with all these stuff, it still works butter smooth!
"fairly nice start"??
This is piracy plain and simple!
Is piracy now endorced by WPCentral?
Doubt it's endorsed, but they're just reporting on Windows Phone news. And custom roms are news, whether you agree with the methods used to make the rom, or not.
Using a software without legal rights is in fact piracy. Although I have no issue with it in this case. :)
