New Dungeons & Dragons game in the works for mobile

Dungeons & Dragons is a super-popular tabletop role-playing game. There have been numerous titles released in digital format for players to enjoy on their consoles and gaming rigs, but many have failed to replicate the magic of tabletop. That could change as Backflip Studios is looking to bring a new Dungeons & Dragons game to mobile platforms and it's set to introduce some neat features.

Backflip has announced that it's creating a new mobile game and while it doesn't look like the tabletop role-playing game, the development team is working hard to implement some key elements. The team will also look to add some unique touches to the game, including real-time combat (as shown in the development video below) as opposed to the usual turn-based. That all said, looking at the video itself, it does seem as though this could be a freemium title, which could put off some of the potential player base.

Not much else is known about the upcoming title, including which platforms it will be released on. We'll hopefully have more details in the near future, but it's certainly one to keep an eye on. It's safe to not expect a hardcore Dungeons & Dragons experience, but an easily approachable title for everyone to enjoy on their mobile device.

What would you like to see in this game?

  • We'll see, I like d and d, so I'll give it a go.
  • I make a bet: iOS and Android only.
  • iOS and Android first *
  • If MS got off their ass, and seriously pushed all of the WP devices that are to come out these next two months, they could push WP market share past the 5% mark for the first time in early 2015....
But, a lack of substantial marketing by MS will keep other platforms getting games/apps first, and WP being excluded temporarily, or forever.
  • I've been saying this very same thing for the last several months, but alas, it may never materialize unless they get somebody like the current Tmo CEO.
  • I've been saying this for almost 4 years.
  • Makes me wonder why you stuck around for this long.
  • When it comes to games Windows Phone is truly the worst phone to have.
  • That's an ipad
  • Exactly. Probably not even Windows x86 or even Xbox. I wonder why its even featured here at all.
  • the magic of d & d was playing it with friends and the spontaneity of it all. I don't think any video game could recreate that feeling
  • Exactly, the power of imagination at its best.
  • I dont think ANY of the D&D video games, ever, are supposed to recreate the experience of the pen and paper game. Its just a brand name in regards to video games. But a few of those D&D video games were fun as heck, notably the dungeon crawlers for PS1. My friends and I use to sit and play local multiplayer for hours. One of mu friends use to yell out all the time "bees and acid, use the bees and acid!" Bees and Acid became a long time in-joke with us.
  • Neverwinter Nights /could/ come close, with a bit of effort...
  • We dont even know if its coming to WP...many of these big titles dont
  • I d rather see Baldur s Gate than this crap
  • Yes! The new extended editions would be superb on the 1520!!!!
  • Yes... Best D&D Video game EVER.
  • sexy girls + wolfman + vampire + zombie + dragon ...
  • =R.I.P. Xbox
  • haha true
  • R.I.P Xbox Games For WP :\
  • I'd take a game in the vein of the old gold box games. And for God's sake, stop it with the overly cartoonish graphics!
  • Agreed graphics too cartoonish but i guess its supposed to be more fun and less serious n dark. In that genre I find Dungeon hunter 4 on WP a lot better than this.
  • Its great game, glad to see another part in the works
  • Support go 512mb
  • Coming to IOS a and Android only I'm afraid,I hope I'm wrong
  • Same. Hope it simply comes to WP...
  • I hate freemium, give me a good title at a reasonable price and I'll pay, but go freemium and I'll skip it.
  • Same here. Freemium is a plague on the gaming industry.
  • Why don't you like freebies???
  • Honestly, because your handed a crippled game and eventually forced to grind into complete boredom or pay through your nose for a game on crutches and than a bit more for a fully open game.
  • Agreed. I would much rather pay a reasonable amount for a polished product. Not a freemium fan!
  • Is this game will be available for Windows phone ?
  • I'd love to tell you but I can't read the article either.
  • LOL!!
  • LOL !
  • They're the makers of a game that I play a lot, SpellFall. They've actually got a lot of good games out, but they don't make games for Windows Phone.
  • Email them
  • I hope they release this for WP7. Just kidding...
  • They better release this for Windows Mobile or I'm gonna hit the big red button! :)
  • R u the judge of x factor?
  • LoL it was just a random silly comment.
  • Hopefully it'll come wp
  • Dungeons and Dragons. Or the Virgins Club as it was known at school.
  • That's funny.
  • Among all the other virgin students, who for some reason had a need to direct attention away from their own perceived shortcomings...
  • Achievements
  • Full of IAP's, no thanks.
  • This is great but what about the Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition, that is coming to EVERYTHING else..? (Android Central and Imore have it on their pages). Hey, what about Baldur's Gate I & II Enhanced Editions? Really don't want wp to be left out from all the goodness!!!!
  • + from here!
  • Weirdly, the Wii U would be the best console for D&D. The DM uses the gamepad, the players use pro controllers.
