The New York Times Crossword app gets rebuilt for Windows 10

If you're a fan of teasing your brain with a crossword puzzle every now and then, you'll be delighted to know that the New York Times Crossword app has been rebuilt from the ground up for Windows 10. Now the app should work great across both PC and Mobile, providing a similar experience on both platforms.

Here's the full skinny on what's new:

The New York Times Crossword app is now fully Windows 10 compatible and built as a single app that will work across your mobile and desktop devices. This should provide greater stability and reliability for our new and dedicated solvers.

For those unfamiliar, the New York Times Crossword app lets you access the daily puzzle that appears in each issue of The New York Times, along with a back catalog of 20 years worth of puzzles. Surface users can even fill in the puzzles the old fashioned way with the Surface Pen.

Interested? If so, give the app a download from the Windows Store and let us know what you think in the comments!

  • Surface users can even fill in the puzzles the old fashioned way with the Surface Pen. This!
  • Now when is NYT going to do an actual news app for Win 10
  • The pc app still has more features like collections, there is a Mondays collection for example
  • Nice!
  • Good move, but we also 'deserve' the real New York Times :(
  • There's a great crossword app on the iPad which pulls puzzles from all sorts of sources. I wish that would come over to Windows. Having the option of puzzles from different publishers is really nice.
  • Great news. I love this app even though the old one doesn't work on phones and even on the Surface, it has real trouble translating my pen written "G"s correctly and I know my handwriting isn't THAT bad. The Surface is a great place to do the Sunday NYT puzzle because when you get stumped over some really obscure clue, a quick flip of the finger brings up the browser to help with the answer.
  • Excellent! Had to come to the website to download it though because the W10 app is just crashing on opening. Anyone else?
  • This app is crashing a lot on my 730.
  • If you get stuck check out my app 'Crossword Hint' for all windows devices.
  • Deleted after 5 minutes of trying. Crashed every time within seconds.
  • Crashes frequently while swiping/zooming. Otherwise I really like it.
  • It's the New York Times...how can we trust the clues & words are true?
  • Seeing the same crashing that others experience. I'm on the latest fast ring. It's 100% unusable because it crashes within seconds of opening.
  • Works fine for me on 950XL DS on release build (no insider). Just completed the mini
  • Puzzles for Communists by Communists.  No thanks, lefty NY Times!
