PhotoMath will make your Windows Phone do your math homework

School is a lot easier these days thanks to the internet and smartphones. One Windows Phone app in particular will make your basic math homework a breeze. It's called PhotoMath and it solves equations using the camera on your Windows Phone.

With PhotoMath you're able to quickly and easily solve relatively simple math problems. Here are the supported features right now:

  • Arithmetic expressions
  • Fractions and decimals
  • Powers and roots
  • Simple linear equations

You'll also find Live tile support, camera Lens integration and more. When checking equations using PhotoMath you can also display a step-by-step solution so you can understand the process to solve the problem. The video above shows how PhotoMath works - just scan a math problem and watch it get solved in real-time before your eyes!

While you won't be using PhotoMath in your calculus class, it could come in handy in checking your homework when you're in algebra. Download this free and handy tool and let us know what you think!

Thanks Domagoj P!

  • This is just wrong! Lmao.. Kids of today... Lucky bastards!!
  • Lol right, they have it made.
  • Until their phone's battery is dead.  Then they'll be dumb as a rock.
  • That's so true unfortunatelly :)
  • Yet another tool to help our students remain brainless. But otherwise totally cool and awesome!
  • Its not available on android.
  • Haha.
  • I moved to the US in 2009, and in HIGH school students used calculator for very basic math problems (x, :). And when student asked teacher to spell a word -- Yeah this two things were wrong and mind-blowing.
  • We have tomahawk missiles, no need for math...
  • Yeah, that why many American students are dumb. Read this short article
  • The students aren't dumb, our education system is failing us.
  • Luckily I'm a high school student and I'm not one of them. :p
  • Well too bad it doesnt work for my calculus classes... Lol
  • What I said when they started letting you use calculators.
  • Very easy maths, no use. multivariate calculus needs to be included.
  • this app will make kids lose all their math skills, and be lazy . be serious, how many of you learned math with an app?! let the brain work !
  • That's what they said about writing things down.
  • They probably said the same thing about the abacuss. It's just another tool.  I would have used it to check my work and also "tutor" me through the solvency steps. A kid CAN use it to cheat, but there have always been ways to cheat.
  • Thank you. If someone is going to cheat that's what they are going to do, period!
  • It may help with homework, but they still have to take tests
  • Please help me. I want this button its not available to download! Is it only available in one particular region???
  • Their knowledge will show on tests so don't worry. They still have to learn it
  • From the other side thus app will help too many students to check their homeworks + hundreds of students won't need a teacher to know how does any problem solved
  • Exactly what I was thinking
  • Lol
  • Interesting concept. But if one needs help solving such math exercises as shown in the video, then he/she has a serious problem with math. Hope it does differential crap though :D.
  • That's exactly what I thought ahahahahahahahah
  • And that's why my kids won't have a phone until they can buy one themselves
  • I think parents that have been out of school for a while will like it for themselves(check the kids homework)
  • Don't forget: Flip phones!
  • If it can't do differential equations and multivariable calculus, then it won't suit my mathematical needs. Hell, at least let it allow me to do a 5x5 matrix..... Seriously, this app is only good to CHECK algebraic equations. You hear that kids!?!
  • I tried it and its cool. Didn't understand handwriting though. Yes I wrote very nice and neat. Ha good concept good app. Worked out of my kids math book but doesn't do complex equations
  • If only this could help with my trig and calculus homework. :P
  • I was thinking if it could solve them trig identities. I like calculus and always want to do it myself. Well the school year is almost over hear anyway and I'm less than a week away from my final high school exam so this wouldn't be much use to me even if it did do trig identities. Somebody make an app that solves varsity maths thingys please.
  • Trig identities would definitely be a huge help right now. I wouldn't know about Calc, haven't gotten there yet, but looks scary (taking Precalc in highschool).
  • Its ok. Nothing hectic. If you do physics its even more of a breeze.
  • Maybe there's a grammar app for you. :P
  • Unless I get marked down for incorrect grammar. I don't give a sh*t.
  • He's got a point: Math is a language all of it's own.
  • Lol, I love solving trig questions. But personally I hate calculus, not to say its hard, but its long.
  • Please help me. I want this button its not available to download! Is it only available in one particular region??
  • Good point! Did you get held back in school!! Cheapskate!
  • Is Wolfram Alpha ever going to happen?
  • Damn lucky kids nowadays. Good tho for teachers alike.
  • Wish I had this when I was in school. Awesome idea! This developer should make a pretty penny from this.
  • No ads, AFAIK.
  • Nice....that's really cool.
  • I can see the next generations become less and less intelligent now...
  • So it's like Microsoft Mathematics but an app?
  • Yes, but without the scanner. Microsoft Mathematics is available as a Windows application *or* as an add-in for Word and OneNote 2010 or 2013.
  • Dang it I just graduated college
  • This is going to backfire so hard. Kids will use it to solve homework, that's fine and all. But then they will get a midterm and no phones will be allowed and good luck with summer classes.
  • Damn...why is generation getting the good stuff....this sux
  • Loving that Straw app, Sam...
  • Me too Rodney.
  • Dumb as rock hilarious
  • I'd like to see an native WolframAlpha app.
  • 1 + 1 still equal 3.... They lied in math class... That is my argument and 1 + 0 is 1... Just saying... That is life's rule...
  • And we spent almost 60Rs on Geometry boxes when toolkit is available here instead :(
  • Diabolical.
  • Kids, education, dumbing down blah blah blah... The important thing I take from this is... F*** you Android! Coming Soon™ :D
  • Holy shit. Kids have it so easy nowadays
  • Those topics are so easy...imho.
  • We need mathematica and matlab apps... Not this crap for elementary arithmetic.
  • What on the earth is calculus class??
  • Leave "the" out.... Lol.
  • WP doesn't have a Sonos app?
    Where's that Sonos app???
  • Nooo the future is doomed this dumbass kids of today are lucky.
  • Awesome
  • Shareit alpha got updated with an invite for other shareit app for wp8.1 user which can share photos, music and videos
  • The thing is, this doesn't show work. Professors always wanna see your work broken down.
  • Actually, it DOES show step for step work...
  • Wow that is a clever app. Good job to the developer.
  • I remember the idea for this app as the plot of an episode of The Big Bang Theory:
While this real app does not yet handle complex equations, the foundation is in place and the developer likely has more complex math as an ultimate goal.
  • I was about to post this same thing! LOL :)
  • I remember the idea for this app as the plot of an episode of The Big Bang Theory:

  • Lucky!!!!! Bastards during our day we dont have this hahahahahh
  • where were you when i needed you back then :(
  • Screwing science
  • Erm, my math is purely calculus and transforms... I'll pass.
  • Please help me. I want this button its not available to download! Is it only available in one particular region?
  • Try use merica# region
  • Man I grew up in the wrong decade
  • Haha, the joys of calculus. I wont need this, but its cool.
  • Thats really nice. but it can't do any criticle math solution. its work as a calculator. thats it.
