Rainbow Six Siege: Starter Edition gives PC gamers a taste of the action for $15

In an effort that should end in beefing up the game's playerbase, Ubisoft announced the launch of the Rainbow Six Siege: Starter Edition for PC. Available for $15 from June 2 through June 19, the Starter Edition will give players access to all of the content and features available in Rainbow Six Siege. The only difference in the starter edition is how you go about accessing all of the game's 20 original operators.

Here's how Ubisoft says the Starter Edition will handle the operators you start out with, and how you can unlock further options:

  • Instant Unlock: 2 random Operators from a pool of the most intuitive Operators at entry level: Rook, Sledge, Ash, Fuze, Mute, and Smoke. 600 R6 Credits to spend on either additional Operators (recommended) or other additional content
  • Slower unlocking of the remaining 16 Original Operators (GIGN, SAS, GSG9, SPETSNAZ, FBI): 12,500 Renown or 300 R6 Credits to unlock 1 Operator. Approx. 15 hours to unlock 1 operator using in-game Renown
  • Access to all Post-Launch Operators (JTF2, Navy SEALs and upcoming CTUs): 25,000 Renown or 600 R6 Credits to unlock 1 Operator. Season Pass unlocks all Post-Launch Operators

Though this may seem like an odd approach, the Starter Edition should lower the barrier to entry for interested players. If you're thinking of giving Rainbow Six Siege a go, you can nab the Starter Edition from Steam at the link below. And while the Starter Edition sale will end after June 19, those who purchase will be able to continue playing after just fine.

  • so they make leveling up harder for a cheaper price? lol that's kind of interesting btw saying you get just "a taste" is a kind of a misleading tittle, you get the full standard game, you will just have a harder(longer) time unlocking things
  • Meanwhile on cd keys, get the proper game for not much more.
    Stupid idea.
  • Haha, if I wanted to play this. I would wait for F2P. this game will be forgotten soon imho.
  • This game is the best FPS to come out on PC in years. The player base is massive and I can assume on consoles their little minds can't handle it so it is dying there.
  • I'm gonna jump all over this deal. Read about it earlier today Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
