Updated May 7, 2020: Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on Xbox Game Pass. Usually, games are available at 8 PM EDT the previous day, but this title appears to be the exception.

Microsoft has announced that Rockstar Games' latest open-world western, Red Dead Redemption 2, is headed to Xbox Game Pass on May 7. The Netflix-style subscription for Xbox games welcomes the hit to its rotating library of titles, included under its flat $10 monthly subscription on Xbox One consoles.

Red Dead Redemption 2 first hit Xbox One in late 2018, launching to near-universal praise among critics for its vast open-world sandbox. Developed by Rockstar Games, talent also behind the Grand Theft Auto series, the title sees players assume the role of Arthur Morgan and a crew of outlaws traversing America for survival. That provides the backdrop for a deep narrative spanning dozens of hours, and a multiplayer component under Red Dead Online.

Red Dead Redemption 2's arrival also sees the departure of Grand Theft Auto V, added to the rotating Xbox Game Pass lineup earlier this year. The title, also among Xbox bestsellers this generation, remains at a 20% discount until May 7, for those looking to lock down a digital copy.

Red Dead Redemption 2 adds further value to Microsoft's subscription service, featuring over 200 games on Xbox One, with entry-level deals providing access for as low as $1 (opens in new tab). Xbox Game Pass soon includes Red Dead Redemption 2, alongside top Microsoft series like Halo, Gears of War, and Forza, for a single buck.

  • Holy buckets, nice! Still haven't gotten around to play this one. TGF Game Pass!
  • I know it won't be on Game Pass for PC.
  • Awesome add for those that haven't played this masterpiece yet.
  • I finished it last month. It is a very good game.
  • Again, PC Game Pass is a seconda class citizen. I'm tired of these artificial barriers.
  • I could say the same thing about a few GP on PC only titles. this is entirely on R* I am sure, they did just release the game at full price on PC last year.
  • Sure, there are PC games in GP that are not on console. But I don't think it's the same, you get a lot of major titles in console that aren't offered for PC.
But definitely they should be the same games for both.
  • A very welcome addition. I wanted to play it, but wasnt gonna buy it.
  • Ok, now I'm less disappointed about GTA5 leaving. Unfortunately my local game shop won't accept trade ins at the moment due to COVID-19, which means I can't trade in my physical copy, so that sucks.
  • How is the eBay market there for used games? In the US its actually pretty easy and more profitable to sell games there. Also, what about Swappa? They actually have games now too.
  • I kind of forget that Ebay exists, I've been trading in because I have a preorder for Cyberpunk's Collector's Edition, so any games I trade just go straight towards that, but I should just sell on Ebay and then put the money on the preorder instead, more steps but same result.
  • Same here, just want to try but never wanted to buy this game. Not disappointing about GTA. I am more hoping to have Seikiro to join Game Pass. 😁
  • I wish to Christ that would happen, but track record tells me that From isn't coming to Game Pass.
