Best answer: Getting a Surface Dock is worth it if you want to use your Surface Pro X like a PC when you're at home or in the office. Otherwise, there's not really any reason to get one.
Should you get a Surface Dock?
If you're somebody who likes to work on a desktop PC in your home or at the office, then the Surface Dock will be a suitable companion device to get with the Surface Pro X. It comes with four USB 3.0 ports, a pair of Mini DisplayPort slots, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and an audio-out port, effectively allowing you to hook up your Surface Pro X to some external monitors and use it as a PC. The USB hub is also fantastic for connecting keyboards and mice, as well as whatever other peripheral devices and tools you may have, too. It's on the pricey side, but if the increased productivity is worth it to you, going with a Surface Dock is less expensive than buying a separate desktop PC.
Something important to note, though, is that it looks like a Surface Dock 2 is coming soon. If you're not in a hurry to get a dock, you may want to wait and see what the second iteration of the Surface Dock offers.
