The Surface Pro Type Cover is up for pre-order on on the Microsoft Store, with a ship date estimate of October 26. Both versions feature mechanical keys and an enlarged trackpad, and are compatible with both the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4.

  • Does the new pen work with Surface 3?
  • Not sure about the Surface 3 but I'm also wondering if it will work at least with the Pro 3.
  • Yes it does!
  • Oh cool. Has anyone asked whether this pen would work with the 950XL as well? I hope it does... Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • a friend is at adobe max and the ms booth pulled the new surfaces out to play... he could NOT stop gushing over the new nibs! that as the surface book.
  • Does the surface not come with a stylus? I thought it always came with one.
  • It comes with one. But if you want a different color. You have to buy another one.
  • Does it charge over USB like Surface 3, or does it a need traditional outlet?
  • These are for Surface Pro 3 users who want them. The Surface Pro 4 will come with the pen.
  • It doesn't charge!! The integrated battery lasts a year than you have to replace it ... Add it to your list of annual subscriptions 1year of office personal!!
  • I think he's asking about the SP4 not about the pen...
  • It has a charging port as per the SP3. USB-C only on Surface 3 for now. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • saving money for surface book now!!!! >_
  • More like $160 for the fingerprint version of the type-cover ;) I'll wait for a review on it before I decide if I get a normal one or the fingerprint version.
  • Is the fingerprint one only out in US?
  • I don't think so, I think they'll be all available in the markets where Surface is available. However, this being Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if any of the accessories ended up US-only as usual. But so far I have no information saying it will be.
  • They have a video showing the fingerprint scanner with a little note onscreen saying US only. I'm hoping that changes!
  • That sucks big time. Wonder what the import costs will be! I'm sure there will be someone importing on eBay at some point
  • Found one on eBay:
  • Only the Black one has the finger print reader!
  • Can't see the fingerprint sensor type cover on UK website. The ones without are available for pre order but I wanted the fingerprint one:
  • Fingerprint only in black? Was really looking forward to getting red.
  • Yeah that's what just got me. Wanted in blue :( Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • + Blue
  • I see the new pen works with SP3 but does that include the new erasure feature? I haven't been able to confirm that.
  • Good question. I'd like to know too. If it didn't you'd think they would have said so.
  • I can't see any reason why not.
  • I'll be buying both of these and replacing the ones on my SP3 it'll feel like a whole new computer.
  • Agree, the spaced and softer to type keys will be worthy bonus on the SP3. The new pen I'm probably not getting - will wait until later and consider getting the SP4 (pen included), dependent on future earnings and requirements.
