Beem is a Digitally Imported client that allows you to stream various EDM radio stations to your Windows Phone. In a nutshell, Beem is a music app that allows you to stream and enjoy various electronic dance music stations from your Windows Phone.

Beem takes advantage of the Windows Phone panoramic layout with pages to display the available stations and your favorite channels. Beem currently streams about forty different dance music stations ranging from Chiptunes (videogame music) to Hardstyle (head banging tunes).

Tap and hold an individual station and a pop up menu will appear with options to pin the station to your Start Screen or add the station to the Favorites Page.  The music may not appeal to everyone but some of the stations aren't too shabby.  If you like music options for your Windows Phone, Beem is worth looking into.

Windows Phone App Review: WpFandora

WpFandora is a unofficial Pandora client for your Windows Phone. The app comes in two versions, a free ad-supported version and a $2.99 ad free version (WpFandora Pro). The music app is laid out nicely and as long as Pandora doesn't break their public API, the app ran smoothly.

I'm not a big Pandora user but WpFandora came across as a simple, easy way to channel your Pandora stations to your Windows Phone. WpFandora is definitely worth trying if you are looking for a Pandora client for your Windows Phone.

TuneWiki is a pretty cool website where you can check out not only the lyrics for your favorite song but also discuss song meanings--always a favorite pastime. The site has apps for that are very popular on Android and iOS and now we're pleased to see it has arrived on Windows Phone too. Best part? We're not looking at some generic port but what looks like an honest attempt to embrace the Windows Phone UI. Here are the features:

  • Listen to any music with synced lyrics
  • Share lyrics from your favorite songs with your network of friends
  • Get lyrics instantly translated into 40+ languages
  • What does that song mean? Comment on and discuss the meaning of lyrics and songs
  • Discover new music in your SongBox – songs that are being played and recommended by your friends
  • Explore Song Maps and real-time Top Charts to discover popular songs nearby and around the world

We just gave the free app a spin on our phone and boy do we like it--its clean, bold, pulls down the lyrics and plays them "Karaoke style" i.e. no scrolling and even has a neat mapping feature. We can see now why ~5 million people are using the service as it's presented very well.

Anyways, if it sounds like something you'd be into, don't worry as the app is free and available now. Head here to the Marketplace to give it a go. Thanks, Andy, for the tip!

Mixtapes - App Spotlight

Keeping with the music theme of the day, Mixtapes is a free music app for your Windows Phone that is powered by 8tracks. We mentioned the official 8tracks Windows Phone app earlier (Mango app) and just to cover all the bases, 8tracks is a music site where members can up upload their own music mixes to share with others.

Mixtapes is a Windows Phone 7 app that taps into the 8tracks music mix collection much in the same way as 8tracks does. You can log into your 8tracks account from Mixtapes and the app's layout highlights pages for new mixes, hot mixes, and popular mixes.

You have the ability to filter mixes by tags but there is no genre or artist search or the ability to play music in the background as you'll find on the 8tracks app. You still have the wide range of music that 8tracks offers just in a more basic, scaled down package.

If you're a music fan, Mixtapes is worth looking into. It's a free, ad supported app and you can find Mixtapes here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace.

Fast Code, the developers of SuperTube, has released Free Music Downloader over at the Windows Phone Marketplace. Free Music Downloader is a free, ad-supported version of SuperMusic that was released just a few days ago. I know... it's a little confusing.

Why the developer didn't go with "SuperMusic Free" or "SuperMusic Lite" for the free version is a bit of a mystery but variety is the spice of life.  Both apps are basically the same.  Free Music Downloader has the ad banners and SuperMusic allows you to sync your downloaded music files with your computer. Beyond that, the layout is identical.

Free Music Downloader and SuperMusic allows you to download free music, audiobooks and podcasts from various websites and organize them into playlists. You can customize the app with background images from your Pictures Hub and add your favorite download sites to the existing list of about forteen download sites.

To download a tune, simply tap on the website listing on the Favorites Page and a web browser will open up to that website. From there all you need to do is find the song, tap the download link on the webpage and the download begins.

The artists don't appear to be mainstream bands but the music selection is wide ranging and some of the tunes aren't too shabby. All in all, if your looking for a music download app either version is worth looking into.

Free Music Downloader is a free, ad supported app that you can download here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace. SuperMusic has a free trial version with the full version running $1.29 which you can find here at the Marketplace.
