Tetris is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week, comrades

Anybody remember when Tetris was a killer app that made people want to go out and get a black and white GameBoy to play it on the go? Those days have long since passed; hence even $4.99 seems like a lot for Tetris. Thankfully EA’s Tetris is finally on sale this week for $2.99, which goes down a lot easier.
The Windows Phone version of Tetris is actually quite slick. It’s got great visuals and a fine remix of the classic Tetris theme “Korobeiniki.” There are numerous gameplay variants such as Gravity and Radical that add a bit of variety to the game we’ve all played a million times before. Some people complain about the touch screen controls (swipe left and right to steer, tap to rotate, and swipe down to drop pieces), but I find them to be natural and effective. Our review also praises the game’s stat tracking.
Tetris is on sale for $2.99 for one week only. Puzzle fans can pick it up here (opens in new tab) (Zune link) on the Marketplace.
Fun fact! I almost wrote a book about Tetris before deciding I didn't quite love the game enough to write about it for more than a hundred pages.

$99-1.29 sure but, even $2.99 is too much for an old game like this. $4.99 is just a rip off, unless you have to have it, stay away.

This particular version of Tetris (EA's) is only 2 years or so old. It's also $2.99 on iPhone, so I don't think $2.99 is too much at all. Plus, lots of people actually do like Tetris and want to play it.

That's the point, "particular version" the basic game play with some upbeat modern music is the same thing from my old game boy in the 80's.I tried the demo, yea, it's mildly entertaining but, it's still the old game just dressed up a little. I guess I was expecting more from a modern phone, not just 200 puzzle games and remakes of old 8 bit games.I guess for $2.99 it's ok but for $4.99 that's nuts, I still think for the game the price point should be around $99-1.99

What was the topic of your book that you even got 100 pages into it?

Just would have covered the history of the game, the many official versions of it, and its influence on other puzzle games.

I had been waiting a while for the price to drop on this game and i finally pulled the trigger at $4.99 about a month ago... SMH FML... oh well, great game and great replay value with all the variants....
