What you need to know

  • In an interview, Valheim's developers at Iron Gate Studio announced that the studio plans to expand following Valheim's explosive success.
  • It was stated that the current development team has "reached its limit."
  • The developers are "currently starting up" the process of hiring more team members.
  • Valheim has sold over three million copies in the last few weeks, cementing its position as a juggernaut title.

In an interview, members of the team behind the viking-themed survival game Valheim have confirmed that following the game's incredible milestone of reaching three million sales in just a few weeks, the five-man team at Iron Gate Studio has decided to expand so that it can meet the demands of such a large player base.

"We will hire some people, absolutely," said Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist. "We are currently starting up that process. Yeah, there will be more people to handle everything, because we have reached our limit by now of everything we can do."

Additionally, both Törnqvist and Sebastian Eriksson of Coffee Stain Publishing (Valheim's publisher) discussed the impact of the game's sudden fame.

We had a feeling that it would sell pretty well, at least to sustain us, you know. But it being a million seller, and now two million seller, is something we could never have guessed," said Törnqvist. "It's quite incredible, and very humbling also, I might add."

"I can echo that from Coffee Stain's perspective," said Eriksson. "We were also fairly optimistic, or I would say very optimistic, in terms of how the game would perform. But this is above and beyond all of our wildest imaginations.

Overall, it's awesome to see Valheim do so well, and we can't wait to see how an expanded development team can help make the game even better. If you're on the fence about checking the game out yourself, I highly recommend you do so, as it's easily one of the best survival games for PC and an absolute steal at its $20 Early Access price.
