Weather Flow picks up transparent Live Tile for Windows Phone 8.1 users

Transparent Live Tiles are all the rage these days due to Windows Phone 8.1. It’s just not us, either, as even Microsoft is urging developers to enable the see through feature in their apps. That’s why we’re excited to see Weather Flow pick up the feature in today’s update.

Weather Flow is one of the original ‘super gorgeous’ weather apps for Windows Phone, in fact, it goes way back to 2012! Weather Flow nicely embraces the whole Modern design paradigm so well, that many people still cling to it as their favorite (despite not picking up some advanced features).

Today, version 1.7 has arrived on the Store, just a month after the 1.6 update. Let’s see what’s new!

Weather Flow 1.7

  • Transparent Live Tiles for Windows Phone 8.1
  • Support for Turkish language
  • Bug fixes

Not a whole lot in terms of features, but Turkish language support is great, and the transparent Live Tile for the Metro option works perfectly.

Weather Flow runs for $1.99 in the Store with a free trial.

Bonus: There’s also a version for Windows 8.1 users found here (opens in new tab) in the Windows Store!

Thanks, Kyle M., for the tip!

  • Ironic, i just unpinned it an hour ago because it didn't have a transparent tile.  Time to update and re-pin.
  • Haha, time for me to reinstall it as well
  • I love the look but the all is missing too much...
  • Mind to elaborate on what's missing for those looking for the nicest weather apps out there? Also, have you send your feedback of what's missing to the developer so they can improve it?
  • Woohooo.. At last! :D
  • Jesus Christ about time
  • An update was due since ages right ?
  • Have been waiting for this. Been using BlueSkies in the meantime which is also a great app but happy that WeatherFlow has transparent tiles!
  • Wait to you see what's coming to Blue Skies.... :)
  • Just had a look at WeatherFlow. Still waiting for it to have a wide tile that flips. So I'm staying put with Blue Skies for now.
  • What's coming?
  • Come on man, you can't say that and then leave us hanging.
  • That's what I'm talking about!
  • You should check for updates ;)
  • Cortana pretty much takes care of all my weather needs. But this was a great app when I was using it. Kudos on getting the transparent tile.
  • Yeah I use lockmix for weather, it's neat but no point in using two separate apps to eat up more data and battery life.
  • Exactly
  • Same, but I keep Blue Skies pinned as well just because I think it looks nice on my start screen.
  • I did that with the Beats Audio app, but then I realized the app itself sucked and who the hell was I impressing anyways?
  • You're welcome Daniel! BTW, I just love this app. It's simple, and great. :)
  • Nice! Was just about to ask if you all knew if this was coming soon.
  • Even weather flow seems cluttered after using blue skies for a couple weeks. I just love it
  • I feel the same. I don't need to know every little measurement of weather. I just need an app that tells me the current temperature, how it feels outside and basic weather predictions, oh, and a sexy layout as well. Blue Skies does this for me. :)
But it's nice to see other developers updating for WP8.1.
  • I'm the same with blue skies and I paid to get more regular updates. I wish you could pin more than one location to the start screen as I like to keep an eye on the weather in my home town as well.
  • Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, it would raise my costs too much to do be able to do that. Sorry!
  • Gorgeous app, but very inaccurate, because it doesn't pull data every hour, but caches it for hours :(
I'd return to use it only if this is fixed and we get reliable data.
  • I already paid for the app on WP 8.1. Do I have to pay again for the W 8.1 app? I am not sure if this one is the product of the universal app program or was developed independently.
  • It should display whether it is or not in the store.
  • Awesome update looks great transparent
  • Wonderful! I must say that this is what makes Windows Phone unique - the live tiles. With transparent ones, WP will take over the world!!! :D
  • Is transparent tiles really that necessary??
  • Yes. Most have gone transparent now so the few that are not are annoying and block your view of the wallpaper.
  • I use bing weather, live tile updates reliably, almost never actually open the app itself. Works for me, anyone else?
  • +
  • I use this app all the time and I had sent them a request couple weeks ago add support for transparent tile so I am very exited to see this update.
  • Funny how Microsoft is urging developers but how about they fix their own apps first. For example Remote Desktop doesnt even have accent color on live tile just that ugly red one.
  • IMO Blue Skies is the best one out there..
  • OH MY GOD FINALLY!!
  • Weather flow no doubt is very pretty but does not have the 'feels like' functionality. I live in Mumbai, India, where the temperature will be 30 degrees Celsius, but it 'feels like' 38 degrees! Now that's a big difference. So Amazing Weather HD does it for me and it is accurate in this part of the world.
  • It's probably the most beautiful Weather App, and i love the alternative 'Metro' theme, but here in New Zealand it's Weather forecasts are way waaaaay off, essentially making it useless.  Pretty much all the reviews of it in the local Store say the same. Real shame.
  • Yeah the default Microsoft one seems to work fine for me so sticking with it.
  • It is cute and all, that Microsoft is urging developers to do it, but last time I checked, literally not one of the installed MS apps on my phone have transparent tiles.
  • Exactly
  • I like it!!!
  • Microsoft urging developers to make transparent live tiles... Yet they have 0 support for PNG in their API leaving developers to do this themselves. Would have been a no brainer to include a SavePng extension method to Wbmp, gotta wonder what's going on with them sometimes. Wish WPCentral would stop with the 'Microsoft can do no wrong' and add a dose of realism.
