Windows 10 build 10240 gets another update

Windows Insiders that have Windows 10 build 10240 installed can now download an update via Windows Update that includes KB3074679, a hotfix for x64 systems that fixes authentication issues when connecting a Microsoft account with a local user account. A new driver for Intel's HD series of video cards is also included in this update, as well as the latest definition files for Windows Defender.

  • Does this mean that this build will only just receive KB updates?
  • My store app has been crashing for a few days now. Anyone else?
  • Yea can't install any apps
  • Not for me.Store is lightning fast in opening up and installing apps.Really impressed with the improvement in store in this build.
  • My x64-Bit machine is running with 32-Bit drivers??
  • Make sure your MS account is logged in properly in accounts section. If not just use the recovery section in windows update to get your windows all fresh.
  • Same here... I can't download any app...
  • I haven't noticed Store, but Mail crashes every time I start to write a new email.
  • It should, if its RTM.
  • Atom driver support would be nice the 2760 has issues on 240 but not on 166
  • I believe the point is now to only release KB updates. This is the RTM build, it's what OEMs will be receiving. As such, any improvements that need to be made to it need to be shipped out via Windows Update, new builds are no longer an option (at least temporarily until Windows 10 launches).
  • Yes. We will probably have KBs for a few months. After that, they will probably switch back to builds for the major release set for next year.
  • I miss the W10M builds :(
  • Same here... :(
  • Yes, but then not getting any new features. Really want to see the aero effects of win 10 in mobile builds. Especially in action centre.
  • Same here! :)
  • And...are there any such rumours?
It would fit nice with its desktop counterpart though :)
  • Nope, but a feedback would definitely help.
  • W10 is very fast across laptop,Xbox & W10 mobile, it takes some getting used to, you most definitely need to stay in control of Sync.
  • for phone plzzzz!!!
  • Probably tomorrow or next week..
  • I would honestly be surprised if they released a new mobile build next week. With Windows 10 rolling out on Wednesday, they'll most likely be giving 100% focus and priority to making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. I would also be a little surprised if they released a build tomorrow (Friday), but anything is possible.
  • If they have any doubt about stability 5 days before release they would've pushed it back by now. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't have already released a large part of testers and devs to work on mobile. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see a mobile build today. They've been known to reward us with a new toy to play with over the weekend. :)
  • Releasing W10 will cause a great impact, no matter how long it was tested and by how many. I am also sure, they would focus on bug fixing and hotline presence, at least as long as it calms down. It was the way we used to handle such changes at our company. But if you tested good before, the impact will stay little. So, also hoping for a new M-Build ;-)
  • Testing well, doesn't mean it's going to come out of the gate with minimal issues. Even if only 100 million people install Windows 10 by the end of August, they will almost certainly uncover new issues. After all, what are the chances that the 5 million Insiders tested every hardware and software combination? A  lot of new issues could still pop-up. Heck, the other day Windows Update installed a Lenovo trackpad driver on my non-Lenovo laptop. It made my touchpad completely useless outside of Safe Mode. So it's still possible (and probably likely) that people will encounter new issues.
  • Not to mention, a lot of these bug fixes leading up to 10240 should also roll into improving Win10 Mobile since they probably share the code.   It's less now about which OS to spend time on bug fixes but which bugs affect which OS's user more.  E.g. a bug in the dialer doesn't affect most desktop users so no time will be spent.  A bug fix though in Hybernate should help both.
  • Am I getting those DX12 drivers now?
  • Most certainly. AMD updated the drivers to support DX12 2 days ago.
  • Does this fix the install error with the SP3 firmware? UPDATE: Negative. There is also an app update for the store too BTW. The store update is only for the desktop OS not the phone oddly enough this time.
  • Build 10240 for phones (emulator) leaked. Maybe we get it tomorrow?
  • THAT would ROCK!
  • Links please?

  • Did anyone else notice how, in the video, the circles in the people live tile move when he scrolls up and down (0:15)?
  • Does anyone like the circles in the people app? The Live tile seems so jarring...
  • I'm also seeing a KB3074686 update. Not sure what that is as there's no such KB article on the MS website.
  • Does mean PIN login will now work??? Hope so.
  • Pin login will work in the current build. Just forgot pin and reset the pin... It worked for me.
  • Yeah, same here :)
  • Pin login worked in 10240 before this morning update.
  • PIN always worked for me too. Just can't access network shares using the PIN with a Miocrosoft account.
  • That's how it's supposed to work, PIN is less secure so they make it local only. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • This update almost screwed my SP3. Soon as graphics driver update I couldn't open almost anything, what could open was pixilated. Reboots didn't help. Somehow was able to get in settings and kicked off another update that fixed it.
  • Damn, I will turn off my updates in the morning then. Unless that is the sp3 blue screened a moment ago. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I got lucky I guess and didn't have the blue screen, but seems related. Can't remember how I finally got into settings and triggered another update but that was the only thing that fixed it.
  • Pin has worked since build last week, at least for me. I did have to go in and reset my pin to get it to do it though.
  • are they going to include all this update in Windows 10 in Juyly 29 or are we going to have to install all this new update after we finish installing Windows 10.
  • I suspect that these updates will be streamed automatically as you install windows 10 upgrade. The only way this wouldn't happen is when you do an installation offline without the internet.
  • I wish these KB updates showed actual patch notes. One of my biggest gripe with windows update over the years.
  • same here. the notes used to be more descriptive then they are. Now days update details are totally generaic and useless.
  • Still can't control brightness on Surface 3.
  • I've got a red "working on updates" screen...
  • So they release updates that fix a small issue rather than fixing their broken browser? WTG Microsoft!
  • What's broken about Edge?
  • There's probably other things but for me when I try to use the highlight tool and then take a crop of an area it crashes.
  • So 10240 really a final RTM build?
  • It is the build system builders are putting on their systems and other outlets are saying it is so i would say so.
  • What is the meaning ok KB?
  • Kill Bill?
  • Knowledge base
  • KB = Knowledge Base.
  • Others have said what it stands for, but not what it means. Every time they release an update they create an article in their knowledge base about what the problem was, which operating systems/software/hardware it affects, and what they did to fix it. Then they label that update with the article's ID, eg KB3074679. However it seems that these articles are hidden for Windows 10 updates until GA (general availability).
  • Killer of bugs
  • Sorry for posting it here but I did use the forum. And although a couple of members did help me out, I haven't found a solution to this problem. So here it goes!
Alright, this issue has been for quite some time now. We already are on build 10240 and I'm still stuck up on 10162. When I tried to update the OS via the LAN, I found out that after a certain period of time, the Ethernet would show "Limited" sign and when I would troubleshoot, it showed that "the adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware -related problem" AND that the "default gateway is not available". I have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running an ASUS Motherboard. I recently installed Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) in order to fix this issue but in vain. I've never experienced anything like this on the previous builds. Due to slow internet connection I have had to rely on the ISOs to install a new build. But this time around, there are no ISOs. Please help! I'm in a real fix here. :(
I don't want to miss out on the July 29th experience! :'(
  • These seem legit, I installed the x86 version and it's running FINE. http://microsoft-news.com/download-windows-10-rtm-build-10240-iso/
  • Hi! Thanks a lot for you reply! This is Pro version of Windows 10 (although I don't mind) and I went through the comments there. There seems to be a lot of dispute with regards to whether the build works or not. But since you're a first hand user, wanted to ask a couple of questions. Firstly, you do recieve official updates as and when Microsoft releases them right? And lastly, in the comments, people are talking something about encryption key being used (didn't get it, not a science graduate), I do not have to go through all that, right? Just a clean install would do?
  • Also just got this one:  Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074686)
  • I switched on "Windows 10" on the WSUS server i set up for my company a few days ago - there's been a ton of driver updates targeting or "adds support for" Windows 10 over the last 2 days from Intel, NVidia and AMD.
  • I have a question, when officially windows 10 launches, will we have to download these updates as well or we will get the updated build?
  • I think about a month ago they talked about this new implementation they added to the Windows OOB (out of box) boot process that the installer now checks for updates and updates the build during installation (fresh install or upgrade from Windows 7 + 8)
  • Insiders and the general public getting the upgrade won't have to. Those buying new PCs' would have to.
  • Got blue screen error. The graphics driver killed my SP3. Anyone else get this. Gonna try to fix it the morning.
  • Had a blue screen too (SP2). But seems that after reboot it's ok... except now that a firmware update (23.07.2015) cannot install, always get an error 0x80246013 :-(
  • Same here :(
  • Blue screens here too (SP2). Updates installed just fine, but on reboot I was in BSOD hell and can't get out of it. Intel HD driver causes the surface to crash. No image and no restore point available - is there another way to uninstall this last Intel HD driver update? // Can somebody please post the KB of the Intel HD driver update THX//
  • same here. don't know if the intel drivers were installed or not. firmware didn't, error like yours.
  • Same here
  • Same here. Firmware in May also did not install. They need to fix that. Such firmware updates were never a problem on the Surface RT. SP3 is a premium device and MSFT seems to fail with it again and again.
  • With the last update they added Danish to the display language. My Intel gfx has reported some errors, so to be corrected by this. No BSOD
  • I have seen Swedish language support going on and off for the past weeks. It's like, every time they update an app or the Store itself, the localisation can be out until the next update. I guess this will calm down once they launch the OS.
  • Are these updates needed for final RTM upgrade? I have not used my PC since few weeks.
  • Not having much luck with this firmare update on my SP3. It crashed the "hospital blue" sad face and came back and tried again to no avail. It will not install. Anyone else with the SP3 having this issue with this update?
  • Same here. I can't even open any store apps any more -- Mail, Calendar, Music, Photos, Store -- they're all broken ...
  • Try this it takes a while to proses!
    had the same problem... open an elevated powershell (right click start -> "command prompt (admin)" -> enter "powershell") and run the following command: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
  • It looks like Unity is Broke now. In Firefox I am getting the error Message that I need a DX9 Competible Graphics Card
  • Running unity here without problems. AMD.
  • Last update totally break my windows. It's so serious that I can't turn off my Laptop, have to hibernate it. Not even attempt to revert update by windows itself works. And with 5 days until official version I don't want to reinstall.
  • Not even a single update or build to mobile.. Fuck you MS
  • Grow up
  • Also got  2 more updates Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074686) Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.203.333.0)
  • Is it possible to upgrade to Windows 10 build 10240 from 8.1 through windows update?
  • Still can't login to a MSA when using a domain joined account.
  • I thought I saw snow leopard, mac
  • Why? Oh okay, the article picture.
  • Nah, that's the Ninja Cat's bigger brother :)
  • it works fine thansK MS
  • Still thinks its abit early for a release. Stop rushing MS. If you want the OS to be the best. Focus on the OS and not the holiday sales. Yall have the money to wait at least 1-2months for a public. While yall keep fixing the OS.
  • Will there also come a "middlefinger update"? I'm waiting for the middlefinger...
  • The new emoji have already been in for a long time. Save for the skin colour adjusters which are oddly absent.
  • Is it also on mobile?
  • Sorry, but is every patch really worth a new post on your site? Writing about a new build release is understandable, but you didn't write about what was in every patch Tuesday.
  • I like reading about the patches. If you don't, DON'T READ. :)
  • I want the leopard wallpaper ... Please :D
  • Windows update system firmware 23/07/2015 error 0x80246013 problem with installing retry error onedrive just keeps processing, mail app error 0x80070032 not good microsoft
  • No update after 10166
  • I dindn't get the Intel Driver in the upate today.
  • It seem after update the option for fast and slow lane is no more at least on my device
  • My updates won't install... Error 0x80073712
  • This upate overwrote my Elan tourchpad driver.  Fortunately, the Rollback to Previous Driver option in Device Manager corrected the problem.
