Microsoft is rolling out another Windows 10 Insider Preview build to Insiders in the Fast ring (not Skip Ahead) on PC. This build includes more bug fixes and under the hood changes, as we're in the last week or so of development on the Fall Creators Update.

  • This build has the fix for the bug that was causing some Surface Pro 3 devices to end up in a "unbootable" state where the Windows OS will not load and it appears to be stuck on a "spinning dots" screen. After installing this build, Surface Pro 3 devices should no longer get into this state. If you have a Surface Pro 3 in a bad state – follow the instructions on this forum post to get back up and running.
  • We fixed an issue on Dutch builds where explorer could go into a crash loop if an app-requested downloads notification popped up from OneDrive.
  • We fixed an issue where expand.exe couldn't expand CABs that contained Japanese characters in the file name.
  • We fixed a race condition that could result in window content being transparent (but showing the window frame) or stale after unlocking your desktop.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in some Insiders seeing error 0x800B010C when attempting to upgrade to the last few flights.

Good news for Surface Pro 3 users is that this build includes a fix for the bootloop issue that was present in the previous two builds. Surface Pro 3 users can now safely upgrade.

  • Two builds in two days, RTM is close
  • who seen this coming after the insider web cast today :)
  • I just joined the Release Preview ring, not expecting any update right now, but I'm getting one anyway - 16288.1
  • i think your on the slow ring release ring is still on 15063.608 creators update
  • Uuuh, yea. I'm officially done with the Fast Ring, because my Surface Pro 3 was out of commission all week. I did search for issues with the build regarding this but saw nothing on the blog. Maybe it was too early for them to know this was even an issue. Microsoft offered to send me a new recovery drive, but turns out they're all out... I see why now. lol
  • the fix
  • Still seeing 16288 and it won't install, any ideas?
I deleted the download folder contents but no joy
  • Had the same problems for days. Then I tuned off the Windows Update service and deleted the content of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. Finally a reboot and everything went fine.
  • I'll try again, thanks
  • After 3 attempts the latest build is installing
  • Anyone else here have the problem with many of the recent builds where after upgrade many program settings are resetted, Chrome is gone, many of windows settings are resetted, user wallpaper is replaced with the default windows wallpaper, etc. ?
  • Not happened to me... All my settings, 3rd party app carried over to the new build. Maybe something with sync setting in settings app? 🤔
  • Not happening here.
  • Please insert link on this: If you have a Surface Pro 3 in a bad state – follow the instructions on this forum post to get back up and running.
  • Flawless update on my  Surface Pro 3, although I executed the boot loop fix on the previous build.
  • There's a bug ... Sync not available for this account... Weird now I can't log in to my sites as I relied heavily on edge's password saving prowess... Damn
  • Well Crap!!! Decided to update my main PC to 16294.1 and BAM my Asus PCE AC56 wifi no longer works. Uninstalled, downloaded newest drivers, reinstalled and still not seeing my wifi apapter in network adapters. Shows up in device manager but the dreded yellow triangle. I knew there was a reason I left the insiders group on this PC. Thought about the slow ring but thought is was close enough to work well on my desktop like it seems to on my Asus laptop.
  • After being unable to install the last three updates, this one worked. I would say this is pretty much the fall update because it removed the "preview" info at the bottom of the desktop screen.
