When In Rome is a Windows 8 time management game that places you in the heart of the Roman Empire. You play the role of Flavius, an experienced Roman warrior who has recently retired from the demands of the battlefield.
In his retirement, the Emperor assigns Flavius to expand the Roman territories and oversee the building of new settlements, towns and the caretaking of various farmlands. The Windows 8 game typically runs $3.49 and though today's myAppFree deal, you can pick the game up free. If you've been on the fence about picking up When In Rome, now is your chance to take the plunge and save a few bucks along the way.
When In Rome has three difficulty levels where you will have to complete forty-one levels of game play. Each level will present you with various missions or tasks to complete. The game starts out with a short tutorial that will walk you through the basics of game play, after which you are on your own to tackle the various missions the game has to offer.
Most of the missions involve crop harvesting, clearing obstacles from the road and converting raw materials into goods (e.g. milling wheat into flour). Two of the difficulty levels have you playing under the clock (to add to the challenge) while the easiest allows you to play the game at your own pace.
In just briefly tinkering with When In Rome, the Windows 8 game comes across as a fun time management/strategy game. Graphics looks good and the only issue I've run across is that it appears the game lacks support for an on-screen keyboard. When installed on an HP Stream 8, I could not get past the gamer tag entry field. The game ran fine on the Microsoft Surface 3 where you have a keyboard for text entry.
When In Rome may not be everyone's cup of tea but if the game does look like something you would be interested in, you can save a few bucks today. Normally priced at $3.49 with no trial, When In Rome is available for the next twenty-four hours free through the myAppFree campaign.
The game brings home a 4.8 Star rating in the Windows Store. In the short time spent with When In Rome, 4.8 Stars may be slightly on the high side for the game. If you try When In Rome, let us know what you think of the Windows 8 game in the comments below.
