Education platform Moodle comes to Windows Phone and Windows 8

Moodle is now available for Windows Phone and Windows 8. The Moodle e-learning platform is popular with schools around the globe. And unlike its big competitor Blackboard, Moodle is free. The company recently released some basic apps into the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store that should give students basic access to their courses.

Students around the globe rely on Moodle (www.moodle.org) for their education. Moodle allows teachers and professors to create online course calendars, online quizzes, class announcements and more. Students in turn can then submit assignments, download class files and more.

Here are some of the features you'll find with Moodle on Windows:

  • Upload a picture into your private file area
  • Record an audio file and upload it into your private file area
  • Record a video and upload it into your private file area
  • Send a private message to a course participant (can be done offline)
  • Take a personal note about a course participant (can be done offline)
  • Add a course participant to your phone contact
  • Call a course participant touching the phone number
  • Locate a course participant address on Google map
  • Download and view some course resources
  • Quick access to your course contents
  • View calendar events
  • Mobile Push notifications
  • Remote layout/style customization (see below)
  • Support for sites using CAS or Shibboleth as auth methods
  • View all your past private messages and notifications
  • View your activity grades in a course

Anyone using Moodle in their education?

Thanks for the tip Kyle S!

Education platform Moodle comes to Windows Phone and Windows 8

Seriously, it was sooo bad. I had to go cold turkey. I couldn't ever go back. You always need more. And build more. And get a better rank. I'm gonna download it...

Weeeell it would be good if I could actually get past the login screen. Definitely some bugs that need to be worked out.

Maybe the admin of your Moodle has to flip some switches, just like in my case. Try to add your login and then scroll to the bottom of the screen; there a message must be presented. The error I get is "web services must be enabled in advanced configurations". I guess we have to contact the admins and pray they help us.

Too bad my college didn't enabled web services in the Moodle configurations... It would be an extremely handy app for me.

This would be great, but now my district wants us to use Schoology. Sigh... Finally get an Edmodo app and a Moodle app, and we have to move the one that still doesn't have a WP app :(

I was hoping this would work for my community college, but it doesn't. I don't get an error, it just sits at the add screen.

Scroll down and you'll see the error message. Seems to be a Phonegap app, with very little error checking time put in.

I was able to log in easily. Looks like most stuff still has to be done in the browser but it could be handy.

Oh man this is HUGE for me. At least to see it is available is an awesome feeling. Moodle however is known for their bugs lol but w.e lets hope the app receives several updates for fine tuning.

ahh finally no longer have to use the mobile site to view my assignment grades at least.

Oh my god!!! Their website is god awful compared to another one I use for college. But im so glad for this app!!!! I need it for two classes this coming semester. Great news for me!!!!!

This is great news! I'm starting sixth form in September to study A-levels and they use Moodle as their VLE, so this is perfect timing :)

Using it here in Austria, nearly all my teachers create courses and so. I don't like moodle but I have to use it and this app makes my school day more convenient, thanks to the developer!

Just tried it on WP, the app has 1 stars from 2 reviews :(

Unfortunately, our Moodle site isn't up to date and therefore not compatible, but looking at the way the first page looks/works for the app, I think it needs some UI work.

I used Blackboard when I taught at my old institution, but my current university uses Moodle.

I hate it..... >:O

But, maybe this app will change my mind! :)
