Guardians of the Galaxy game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone on sale

guardians of the galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy, the movie version, opened in theaters on Thursday night and is already looking like it will be a major box office success for Marvel Studios and Disney. To celebrate its release, the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone are both on sale for $3.99 and $1.99 from their respective app stores.

That's a pretty nice price cut compared to their normal $7.99 and $4.99 cost. Just a reminder: the game is not an adaptation of the James Gunn directed movie but uses an all new storyline for its RPG title. Here's the quick description:

"Players will initially take on the role of Star-Lord as he rallies his rag-tag crew—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon with a quick draw and an even quicker temper; Groot, the tree-like humanoid who packs a punch; the deadly and enigmatic assassin, Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer through galactic locations and real-time strategic combat. Marvel fans will recruit and train additional heroes, engage in gesture-based team combat, and unlock each piece of the story to unveil the identity of the Guardians' shadowy nemesis."

Will you be purchasing and playing the game this weekend while also checking out the movie (which is pretty awesome, by the way and you really should see it on the big screen)?

Or Moga controller. As far as I know you can't use an Xbox controller with WP, which is dumb, but you can use a Moga controller for some games. You can use the Moga controller with emulators, which is great!

A little too early for a discount I think. Either start with it or wait a little while at least. Whenever this immediate discount happens I regret having supported the game. 1-2 months I would have been fine, even a logical "movie no longer in top three, time to drum up hype again for the franchise", but this is WAY too soon...it was released at the very end of July, no?

I've noticed the '512mb Devices Supported' banner has made the comments sections on games articles infinitely more pleasant... Long may it last!

They are apps and games which you only need to buy once, and you will be able to play them on both your Windows 8 and Windows Phone.

Pointless...i dont use pc to play games like this...i play cod 2, fb games and others..is it just me? I dont even know where to go to download these games!

You can download those app from Windows Store as a Metro app. And it is not pointless, man. For example, you bought Halo: Spartan Assault on your Lumia, and you own a Windows 8 tablet or PC... so what if on a nice day you want to play it on your tablet, not your Lumia? You won't have to buy the game again, since it's an universal app, just download it and enjoy. Similar to paid apps. That's the point.

Well, if you put it that way yeah,, but halo and other big games? My lumia 520, doesnt have them available, thats why i said pointless, why would i want to play a match three game for example on my pc when i can play fifa or cod or battlefield or kz or or or...right?

That's just about personal preference, man. Apps are made universal just for users' convenience. The point is NOT about playing Metro games on your PC or whatever, what you play is what you like, your choice. The point IS you OWN the apps, or games on your every single Windows device, with just one purchase, without spending extra bucks for an app for you tablet/PC that you already own on your phone. That's all.

They've really blown this movie up though. It's so overrated now, I don't even want to see it anymore. But speaking of price cuts, if they bring FF3 down to this price, then ill buy that.

It's very enjoyable. It's hyped because it shouldn't have worked... But it does. Think Indiana Jones meets the Fifth Element with a touch of The Avengers

Just saw it tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Preconceived Marvel universe ideas totally shattered. A bit of everything; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Avatar, Star Fleet.. Just epic.

Dude,whaaat?? :D
Even in WPC's terms (begging people to post their thoughts with a silly question at the end of the article), this is something unique and spectacular. Read my answer "after the break." :D
