lockscreen apps

The Windows Phone Store is has plenty lockscreen apps that allows you to add a certain level of customization to your Windows Phone lockscreen. LockAgenda hopes to attract your attention by displaying more of your daily schedule of appointments on your lockscreen.

The app has several display options for your appointments and a decent selection of lockscreen wallpaper images to choose from as well. You can even use your own image as your lockscreen wallpaper. I can see some appeal with LockAgenda and if you need to see more of your calendar from your lockscreen it may be an option worth trying.

What is on your Windows Phone Lockscreen?

With Microsoft updating the Windows Phone Glance Screen, adding support for MSN Weather and Health & Fitness apps, we thought it was time to revisit a popular subject, our Windows Phone lockscreen.

The native lockscreen settings offer a healthy amount of options to customize what information is displayed on your Windows Phone lockscreen. You also have a host of Windows Phone apps that offer lockscreen support as well as lockscreen customizations.

All of which can turn your lockscreen into a wealth of knowledge that is available at a glance.

There are numerous apps available in the Windows Phone Store to help customize your lockscreen. Awesome Picture Quotes (formerly known as Wallpaper Quotes) is one of the newer offerings that delivers picture quotes for your lockscreen. The quotes are often accompanied by a inspirational photo or drawing as well.

Available for low-memory devices, the interface is simple (maybe too simple) and the collection does have some nice looking images with inspirational quotes. Awesome Picture Quotes is a nice foundation for a lockscreen app. has a slight level of appeal but could use a little polishing.

Earlier this morning we took a look at a YouTube video showing off what an app could achieve when tapping into Windows Phone 8.1 to offer more advanced lockscreens. This app, called Animated LockScreen Preview, is what the YouTube video was demonstrating and it's available right now for you to download. It's not a fully functional app (since the APIs haven't been released yet), but is a solid demo of what's to come.

We haven’t covered a decent Lockscreen app for Windows Phone in a few weeks, so today seems like a good day to do so. Considering the Lockscreen is the first thing you see when turning on your device, what you put there can be pretty important. Luckily today we have another app to add to the bunch, and it’s aptly called ‘Lock pic’.

Lock pic is made by developer Matt ‘RogueCode’ Cavanagh who is a familiar name for many Windows Phone users. He’s the guy behind the hit game VALA: Alpha, MyEdit, our favorite Ffffound app and numerous other hacks including this cool Cortana one using lights. Now he’s added Lock pic to his collection and it’s a solid looking app.

Customizing your Windows Phone Lockscreen

Our Windows Phone lockscreen serves two purposes. It gives us an opportunity to glance at key information without having to unlock our Windows Phone and it affords us an opportunity to stylize our phone’s appearance.

Through the native lockscreen settings you have the ability to customize the wallpaper that will appear and tweak what bits of information will appear. In addition to the native Windows Phone lockscreen settings, there are plenty of apps available in the Windows Phone Store to let you customize your lockscreen further.

While this may be old hat to some, we’ll touch base on a few of the options available to customize your Windows Phone lockscreen after the break.

Watch Corner Gas is a Windows Phone 8 entertainment app that delivers the Canadian sitcom Corner Gas to your phone.  Watch Corner Gas lets you stream all 107 episodes of the Canadian sitcom Corner Gas which ran from 2004 to 2009. The comedy series is described as "the Canadian version of Seinfeld" and in just checking out a few episodes, I can see the comparison.

On a side note the app was developed in part with the relatively new Microsoft App Studio and later fine tuned in Visual Studio.  The App Studio was designed to show app developers how to build a full Windows Phone app prototype without any programming code, all from a web browser.  An effort to make it easier for developers to jump on board with Windows Phone.
