Weekend entertainment with Xbox Music and Video: Diplo, La Roux, Snowpiercer and Raid 2

There's so much good stuff on Xbox Music and Xbox Video. How do you keep up with what's new and worth checking out? You don't have to; we'll do that for you. Every Friday we'll grab the hottest albums and singles on Xbox Music. We'll also let you know what movies and television shows are out to watch on Xbox Video. It's the weekend, and we'll help entertain you.

Xbox Music

Diplo – Random White Dude Be Everywhere

Can Diplo be stopped? He's everywhere today and working with the biggest names in music. Random White Dude Be Everywhere is the latest album from Diplo. It puts his biggest hits from the past few years into one collection. You'll also find two new tracks and never-before-heard remixes from Diplo. This is a must have for any Diplo fan (or the next time you want your girl to twerk).

La Roux – Trouble in Paradise

La Roux

Trouble in Paradise is the sophomoric album from La Roux. This album has been highly anticipated after La Roux's debut album won a Grammy in 2011 for Best Electronic/Dance album. Get your New Wave and Synthpop fix with this release. Let Me Down Gently is a solid single on the track.

Xbox Video

Looking for the sleeper hit of the summer? That would be Snowpiercer. It's a South Korean science fiction action film based on a popular French graphic novel. It was released last summer in South Korea, but filmgoers in the United States didn't get a taste till this summer. It's still out in theaters right now, but not too many of them have it. So you're going to want to grab it on Xbox Video.

Any movie that currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes earns a watch from us. Consider it rented for Saturday night. [R, 2hr. 6min.]

The Raid 2

You listen if Daniel Rubino tells you to watch a movie. This week Dan is recommending The Raid 2 on Xbox Video. It's a positively reviewed Indonesian martial arts crime action film that holds a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, but an 89% rating from the general public. The story follows a rookie cop sent undercover to take down corrupt police and gangs. [R, 2hr. 30min.]

What are you watching or listening to this weekend?

Note: This is our first time trying something like this. Let us know how you want to see a column like this evolve and shape. Don't forget to recommend some other great music or movies below in the comments. Also feel free to reach out to me on Twitter (@samsabri) for recommendations for next Friday.

Weekend entertainment with Xbox Music and Video: Diplo, La Roux, Snowpiercer and Raid 2

Nice idea, Sam! There was the weekly contest and now these entertainment suggestions. Movies are expensive on Xbox Video though.

Thanks. I'm only one guy with my music and movie tastes, be sure to recommend some great content in the comments here or email/tweet me for next week's column. Enjoy and have a great weekend.

I disagree completely, the first 3/4 of the raid 1 was awesome but then it derails in the end, especially with the last fight being a let down when compared to the rest. The raid 2 builds momentum properly till the end, and does not disappoint.

You guys planning to take on The Verge and become a Windows centric Lifestyle website? In that case, can I recommend changing the website layout? The current one is nice but a long form, compartmentalized look will help improve the experience.

I am not saying that they should copy the template, but if in principle there is going to be a wider variety of articles in the future, then the current one would not serve well for an optimized reading experience.

"In that case, can I recommend changing the website layout? "

I've mentioned previously when we re-did the header on the site that the everything is being upgraded, but piecemeal, so that we can kill bugs and not ruin the site. So yes, front page layout will be changing in the future, in addition to everything else like comments, etc.

Its goint to the right way, i love how the menu is arranged now. Better mobile experience should be pushed forward, better UI for mobile , at least as is now for pc

Snowpiercer was so overrated. Given a pass by the critics because the director was Korean. If that movie had come from Hollywood it would've been mocked as badly as The Core. That's what it's comparable to. The audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 67%. That's a better indicator of the movie.

Critics often like movies better than audiences. I hardly think that it got better reviews because the director is Korean. It IS a Hollywood movie in everything except maybe financing. I thought it was a really fun, over the top movie that deserve its high rating.

Diploma EP is pretty dope. Listened to it yesterday on Thissongissick.

I hope you're an UMF and EDC Orlando goer as I am Sam.

Looking forward to Hard Day of the Dead in November.

Missing Hard Summer this weekend.. Jack U, Nero, Flosstradamus, Dillon Francis, Disclosure and others :'(

P.S. I wish Holy Ship would stop selling out so fast.

Only thing I don't like is the way organizers make events/festivals cash cows for themselves. Didn't go this year, but ultra '13 was the best time I've ever had meeting new people from around the world and listening to awesome music. Roomed with (as cliche as it sounds) chill people from WA and NorCal, partied with Aussies, plus a free party bus from South Beach to Bayfront (thank you Sol Republic).

I think this is a good idea. As a news AND enthusiast community site, I think this is a nice addition. Offering more information and offerings about our smartphone OS of choice can only be a good thing.

I would also like to see this expanded or have an added feature of getting information about promos, exclusives, features in Xbox Video that happen from time to time but you generally have to find it yourself or just kind of happen upon it.

More like this!!

Trouble in Paradise was a little disappointing tbh. Especially after waiting 5 YEARS for a new album.

No more complaining from me about Xbox music.....there to much positive attitude about Xbox music! ....just subscribed for one year!!!

Diplo and La Roux. Good choices! The movies sound interesting too, especially Snowpiercer, definitely I'll give it a look this weekend. Thanks guys.

Snowpiercer and The Raid 2 are both awesome! Hard to find something that isn't all CGI superheroes these days.

Recommendations for next week's column should be emailed or tweeted. But you're welcome to share some with your fellow readers here in the comments.

The Raid 2 was definitely better than the first one, but it has the same BS video game-y action sequences that go on forever. At least the new one attempted a plot this time, albeit a bad one.

Snowpiercer was a lot better than expected.

Kooosh recommends: "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Under the Skin" for new movies, and "Futurology" by the Manic Street Preachers for new music.

This is great, so keep it up. Once thing we miss from Zune is the social aspect. I miss doing counts, bronze, silver and gold badges, and sharing my latest discoveries with friends. I do have a Music app question. A previous article mentioned an update today. But tweets from the Xbox team indicates a huge update this week in the 8.1 update. Which is it this week?

I dig it.  Literally just finished the Raid 2 right before I hopped on here and read this.  The fighting makes my bones hurt.

Great idea. However following the video links through your app on my lumia 1520 gives me the message "Sad but true, your browser is not equipped to work with our site." Following the music links I can't preview the tracks to see if I want to buy. Epic Fail.
