The Windows Store is Microsoft's application store for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It was available to consumers with the launch of Windows 8 in late 2012. Users can browse, search and download apps or game for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and the desktop. As of September 2014, there are over 170, 000 apps and games available on the Windows Store.
Games, like most platforms, make up the largest category of content in the Windows Store. Followed by the categories entertainment, books and reference and education.
Developers and app publishers can submit apps and games created using the Visual Studio SDK to the Windows Store for distribution. Once submitted, apps and games can be downloaded by consumers.
There are over twenty categories of apps in the Windows Store and over 15 subcategories for games.
