5 Windows 10 apps you should try: Anime, DragonCon, Flickr, and bionic sheep

With the ever-growing number of apps and games in the Windows Store, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with what's out there.

For that reason, every Friday we showcase some apps that have piqued our interest. They may have been in the news recently, they may be new to the Windows Store, or they could simply be old apps that we just stumbled upon.

They are the 5 Intriguing Apps of the Week.

Skyscanner

Skyscanner

Skyscanner is a third-party Windows 10 client for the travel website (opens in new tab) of the same name.

More or less a web wrapper for the site, the app lets you search for flights across tons of airlines and compare prices. Plug in your travel dates, number of people, and any other particulars, and watch as the Skyscanner scours the net for the best deals.

You can also use the app to book hotel accommodations and rent cars for your trip. All in all, Skyscanner searches over 1200 websites, so you can be sure you are getting the rock bottom price.

Easily access Skyscanner's chat bots on Skype and Facebook, which will open up in your default web browser. You can also log in to see your bookings and manage your account.

If you fancy a trip on the cheap, be sure to take Skyscanner for a spin.

Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

Perfect Flicker

Perfect Flicker

The prolific programmers over at Perfect Thumb have put out a new another Windows 10 app. This time, it's a Flickr client called Perfect Flicker, of course.

This beautifully-designed app sports an intuitive user interface and plenty of fuctionality. Log into your Flickr account to see your photostream and albums, manage your favorites, and maintain your contacts and groups.

Search for images by keyword, person, or group, or explore using popular tags and see what's hot. Follow your favorite users and leave comments on their work. The app also lets you download images, share them, or use them as your Windows background.

Perfect Flicker has cool features of its own as well. Profiles, albums, and groups can be pinned to the Start menu as tiles. The app can also be set up to automatically upload photos from your camera roll directly to Flickr.

Flickr users on Windows 10 will love Perfect Flicker for its top-notch design, ease of use, and functionality that we have come to expect from Perfect Thumb's line of apps.

Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

DragonCon 2016

DragonCon

DragonCon is one of the largest fantasy and science-fiction conventions in the world, boasting over 65,000 visitors last year alone. The event is set to take place in Atlanta on September 2-5, with over 5000 hours of programmed content.

So how the heck are you supposed to find your way around and make the most of your time there? Simply summon the official DragonCon app to your Windows 10 Mobile device and instantly be transported to a realm of otherworldly goodness.

The DragonCon app, which just dropped a couple of days ago, offers you weary travelers a complete map of the event to guide your way to panels and special events. You will also find a full schedule, including a list of celebrity guests who will be making appearances. There's a list of vendors, dealers, and exhibitors as well.

Should you be making the journey to the gigantic DragonCon this time around, you will find the official app a welcome companion.

Available for Windows 10 Mobile.

Anime Kiss Tube

Anime Kiss Tube

Anime Kiss Tube is an app that lets users watch thousands of anime titles online free of charge on their Windows 10 computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Search by title or browse one of the many neatly-organized categories, like newest episodes, latest additions, or most popular. You will also find a comprehensive list of genres that you can explore.

Add movies and series to your favorites list and watch them in the app's built-in media player. Titles will automatically be marked as watched, so you can keep track of what you have seen and not seen.

Anime Kiss Tube offers some of the biggest names in anime, like Dragon Ball Z, Avatar: The Last Airbender, One Piece, and more. There are also plenty of lesser-know titles to choose from, most of which are available in HD.

And more episodes are added on a regular basis, so even if you make it through the thousands of shows, you can keep coming back for more. Anime Kiss Tube is treasure trove anime favorites with something for everyone.

Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

Bionick.S

Bionick.S

Bionick.S is a side-scrolling runner where you play a technologically-enhanced sheep who is battling evil cyborgs. Oh, yes.

You must dodge rockets and lasers by jumping and sliding, which may sound simple on its face. However, the actions are nuanced so you can control the length of your jumps and slides. Adding to the difficulty is Bionick.S' lightning fast pace.

Despite its simplistic gameplay, Bionick.S features detailed 3D design with characters that look like they are straight out of a sci-fi cartoon. The storyline progresses with the help comic book style cinematic panels that are beautifully drawn.

Like most runner games, Bionick.S will leave you frustrated at times and have you kicking yourself for stupid mistakes. Likewise, it can also get repetitive at times. That being said, the artwork alone makes it worth the free download, even if it sometimes outshines the gameplay itself.

Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

  • Anime kiss tube is worst app 1 UI is old like windows 8.1
    2. No option for choosing source
3 When I watched video first time it shows error saying cant
  • Sounds exactly like anime stream tv but windows 10 only
  • It's better Crunchyroll, even if it has only theur anime.
  • this is great... but i cant seem to hide the ads when go to full screen
  • I really dislike that you promote a app to pirate anime :(
  • Agreed, condoning illegal viewing is not a good thing Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Better Crunchyroll.
  • In India, browsing/downloading a pirated stuff is officially illegal and it'll lead you to 3 years in prison with a fine of ₹300K as minimum.
  • Ur right but how do we watch anime in indi their is no choice
  • There's crunchyroll ;)
  • There is a choice. Don't watch it.
  • It isn't illegal in my country. But luckily guns are (dumbly assuming you're from the US). If I see a gun web-ad, i won't assume it's suddenly legal. It isn't called the WORLD WIDE Web for nothing. And WC is an international website.
No need to pollute a thread with national/local issues.
  • Aah, I'm pretty sure there's a part of this article that mentions pirate stuff. What's a world when you don't want national/local (other country) subjects¿ You'd call the world in the name of one country?
  • Just tested the perfect flickr app. Extraordinary. Better than the first party android app, and as of now, the only really functional app on wp10. Matt Cowan's flickr central used to be good, but it stopped authenticating after yahoo changed the login, and he never bothered to make the necessary changes.
Can't praise everything coming out of perfect apps enough.
  • Agreed, I have just downloaded it, super app for my mobile, needs a few tweaks but damn good already !!!
  • Intessting, FlickR Central it still works for me. But this one looks much nicer, i'll give it a try!
  • Finally! A very good Flickr app!
  • Also Manga's Universe is a good app. It's new and I think that we should support the developer.
  • try mangablaze its an awesome app for manga
  • Yes yes I Know it, but mangablaze doesn't have zoom and automatic synchronization, while Manga's Universe has both of them. Give it a try ;)
  • Manga Blaze has zoom option... by default it is set OFF. i have no idea of Auto Sync...
  • Nope, you can't zoom like in photos, you can only hide bar button with double tap
  • open any manga chapter - under the pic u can see settings icon - there r few options read mode blah blah last option was Enable Zoom...
  • Omg I'm really sorry, I did't notice it. Thank you very much ^^'
  • All these apps suck, and even one of them is illegal,?? Wtf?
  • And what is wrong with the flickr app ??
  • I always use Anime Tube unlimited and anime tube universal app they are much batter
  • Great list thanks alot!
  • What's with Windows Central (WC) reporting illegal apps or apps that pirate or steal content? As readers, we have spoken out about this on several articles yet the articles keep appearing and current and past articles with illegal apps are never updated or removed. Daniel Rubino, anyone on the team....is anything going to be done about Windows Central endorsing or supporting via reporting and recommending apps that steal movies, shows and any other content? I think most of us agree that we hold WC to a higher standard based on the high standards WC established in the past. We don't want WC to tarnish it's well respected reputation by reporting and recommending apps that steal content or prove free access to paid content that is not legally free.
  • The Perfect Thumb guys do an excellent job in developing apps for W10M. Every app they have is beautifully designed and functions very well. Kudos to them.
  • Does it filter dubbed anime?
  • Just tried out Perfect Flickr on my 640XL, and so far really good. Now I can back up my photos to Flickr once again (I like to have two back ups- OneDrive as default and Flickr as extra)
  • Does the DragonCon app come with a virtual abacus so you can keep count of how many fat Xena's you see?
