Assassins Creed Valhalla's ability system is a goldmine of powerful combat moves that can overcome even some of the most powerful enemies. As you help forge alliances, raid the river shores, and hunt for mystical objects in England as Eivor, you will need a vast toolset of powerful abilities to get you through to the end. Whether you are still starting out in Norway or well on your way with other adventures in England and beyond, this guide lists every single ability and their corresponding upgrades.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla What are Abilities?

In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, abilities are devasting combat moves that can be used in the middle of battle. These abilities vastly improve the damage you can do in combat. They also provide a way for you to play to your own strengths and playstyle and provide other uses outside of combat.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: How do I use Abilities?

Abilities are easily assigned into two categories — ranged and melee combat. Both are activated separately by the press of a button. Melee abilities are used simply by pressing the assigned quick slot button. Ranged is the same, but while aiming your bow. You can have a set of four melee and four ranged abilities equipped at one time, for a total of eight abilities.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Ability and Upgrade Locations

These powerful abilities can be learned primarily from Books of Knowledge. These books appear as a gold icon on the map that looks like a book with a nordic rune symbol in the middle. However, there are also some abilities learned through different means. For instance, the fire strike and poison strike abilities are learned from collecting medallions from members of The Order that you have assassinated.

This also goes for the ability "Man's Best Friend," which is learned from a sidequest done inside Ravensthorpe. For your best chance to obtain every single ability, upgrade your settlement to the point where you can build the cryptographer. This person is a map dealer and will reveal locations for books of knowledge, armor, materials, ingots, and resources for a price. There is no requirement to learn an ability for the first time at a specific location.

Throwing Axe Fury

• Location One: Nottfall, southeast of Stavanger and far west of Fornburg.
• Location Two: Caustow Castle, near the western border of Sciropescire, south of Wesberie.
• Description: Hurl throwing axes at all enemies in range.
• Upgrade: Any enemy struck will also be staggered.

Dive of the Valkyries

• Location One: Isle of Ely Monastery, west of Brisleah farm.
• Location Two: Lolingstone Bandit Camp, southeast of Lunden.
• Description: Launch yourself into the air and come crashing down onto your enemies.
• Upgrade: Inflict stun damage within a large radius of impact.

Rush & Bash

• Location One: Ravensburg, west of Walden and south of Meldeburne and Wandrie.
• Location Two: Dunwic, a fortress on the East Anglia coastline.
• Description: Rush continuously. While rushing, make contact with any enemy to grab and pick them up. Throw enemies you've grabbed off ledges, or slam them into walls for extra damage.
• Upgrade: Eivor takes advantage of enemies stunned from a wall slam to finish with an extra attack.

Incendiary Powder Trap

• Location One: Walden, South of Meldeburne, and north of Sancta Maria's Abbey.
• Location Two: Briggworth, a fortress on a small island in Suthsexe, south of Lunden.
• Description: Attaches a small pouch to your arrow that spreads a volatile powder wherever the arrow strikes. Any nearby movement causes the powder to burst into flames. Surprise clueless passersby!
• Upgrade: The powder can be detonated a second time.

Raven Distraction

• Location One: Tonnastadir, near the western border of Ledecestrescire, east of Quatford in Sciropescire.
• Location Two: Belesduna Bandit Camp, southwest of Colcestre in Essexe.
• Description: Use your raven, Synin, to briefly distract your enemies.
• Upgrade: Synin attacks the target to begin the distraction. During combat, Synin stuns the target.

Piercing Shot

• Location One: Templebrough Fort, west of Lincoln and north of Sudwella Monastery.
• Location Two: Lincoln in Lincolnscire.
• Description: Shoot an arrow with enough force to pierce through nearly any obstacle.
• Upgrade: Multiply damage for each enemy the arrow passes through.

Harpoon Impalement

• Location One: Venois, northwest of Ravensthorpe.
• Location Two: Colcestre, Sancta Helena's Church in Essexe.
• Description: Impale an enemy with your harpoon and throw them in any direction. Enemies who strike objects or other enemies will suffer massive damage.
• Upgrade: Eivor can finish by pulling the enemy close and killing them with style!

Focus of the Nornir

• Location One: Offchurch, southwest of Ravensthorpe and north of Evesham Abbey.
• Location Two: Bolingbroc Castle, directly east of Lincoln in Lincolnscire.
• Description: Use the power of the Nornir to aim and shoot at your enemies with fateful speed.
• Upgrade: Each killed enemy increases damage dealt.

Mans Best Friend

• Location One: "A little problem" questline in Ravensthorpe.
• Location Two: Creplegate Fort in Lunden.
• Description: Sic your wolf on an enemy.
• Upgrade: Your wolf will stay to fight by your side.

Blinding Rush

• Location One: Ruined Tower, directly north of Northwic, right by the fast travel point.
• Location Two: Chertsey Abby Ruins, west of Lunden.
• Description: Use stamina to move undetected. Aborts on enemy contact.
• Upgrade: Successful Assassination doesn't interrupt the ability.

Poison Strike - Melee/Ranged

• Location One: Hytham, Hidden One's Bureau, Ravensthorpe, 4 Medallions.
• Location Two: Hytham, Hidden One's Bureau, Ravensthorpe, 9 Medallions.
• Description: Applies a poisonous concoction to your right-hand melee weapon.
• Upgrade: Poisoned enemies suffer additional damage over time.

Fire Strike - Melee/Ranged

• Location One: Hytham, Hidden One's Bureau, Ravensthorpe, 6 Medallions.
• Location Two: Hytham, Hidden One's Bureau, Ravensthorpe, 11 Medallions.
• Description: Applies fire to your right-hand melee weapon.
• Upgrade: Enemies that catch fire will suffer additional damage over time.

Mark of Death

• Location One: Meldeburne, south of Grantebridge and east of Wandrie.
• Location Two: Alrekstad, northern section of Norway.
• Description: Hold button to mark sighted enemies. Release to let fly a deadly volley of arrows.
• Upgrade: Increases maximum number of targets.

Axe Blizzard

• Location Two: Wincestre.
• Description: Aim and throw a devastating barrage of axes.
• Upgrade: Completing the full series of Axe Blizzard by adding a bloody finishing combo of extra throws.

Feign Death

• Description: Fool enemies by playing dead.
• Upgrade: Trigger a surprise assassination from a prone position.

Vengeance of Thor

• Location Two: Thieve's Warren, directly north of Glowecestre, on top of a large hill in a fort.
• Description: Concentrate all your strength into an unstoppable attack. The longer you hold, the more powerful the attack will become.
• Upgrade: You can charge-up twice for the ultimate attack.

Rage of Helheim

• Location Two: Waterfall behind Kjotve's Fortress
• Description: Enter a fit of rage and slam your enemy to the ground, leaving them helpless in the face of a barrage of hits.
• Upgrade: Land more blows with faster taps.

Kick of Tyr

• Location One: Ulkerthorpe Fort, in the middle of a set of mountains in Snotinghamscire
• Location Two: Threaded Pass, directly east of Jorvik by the river
• Description: A ferocious kick that sends enemies flying backward. Enemies who strike objects or other enemies will suffer additional damage.
• Upgrade: Kicked enemies will remain down and at your mercy.

Thorn of Slumber

• Location One: Dover Fortress, in the southeastern corner of Cent
• Location Two: Gryttirsand in Norway, west of Fornburg
• Description: An arrow marked with the Svefnthorn symbol puts targets to sleep almost instantly.
• Upgrade: On impact, arrows expel a cloud of poison, putting anyone nearby to sleep.

Poisonous Powder Trap

• Location Two: Odin Mine Hideout, northwest of Hemthorpe in Eurvicscire
• Description: Attaches a small pouch to your arrow that spreads a volatile powder wherever the arrow strikes. Any nearby movement causes the powder to burst into a poisonous mist. Anyone who walks near is in for an unpleasant surprise!
• Upgrade: Your trap can now be triggered twice.
