Cortana also gets 'Fitness Tracker' support for workout recommendations

Besides movies and 'pick the winners', some users are reporting to us that Cortana also has a new Lifestyle interest. Heading deeper into the category reveals a Fitness Tracker section, which we presume ties into the Microsoft Band.

Currently, none of us at Windows Central has the interest in our Cortana Notebook, so we can only guess as to how it works.

According to the screenshots sent in, Fitness Tracker will give you "reminders and recommendations about your workouts". Supposing that this is related to the Microsoft Band (and maybe FitBit), Cortana should be able to feed your exercise regimen and reminders to hit the gym right to your news stream. The Fitness Tracker initiative may also be related to a Microsoft Health push, meaning other companies can opt-in to the program. We'll try to find out more.

The Lifestyle/Fitness Tracker interest is super new, so we will have to wait and see how it works when it hits our devices. We'll update this article when we have more information.

Thanks to Philip_17 and Robby H., for the tips!

  • Work Out
  • Work on the facts, actually...
  • Cortana: Hey lazy ass! It's time for a run!
  • Lol.
  • Its on my Lumia icon denim under lifestyle.
  • It's not super new.
  • For many of us, it is. Or rather, none of us have it yet.
  • I saw this around the begin of February. There's some articles around the internet.
  • Yeah this popped up a couple of weeks ago for me. I deleted my location i had set for gym because it was giving me issues. After readding it cortana asked me if she could track my workouts. so i said fine. So far as i can tell somehow she knows which days i normally go to gym and it pops up in your dashboard saying "today is a training day". Nothing more than that though in terms of functionality however i dont have a MS band (i wish) so cant say much more than that. Still sort of cool though
  • Really? Cause I don't have it.
  • Your profile picture looks like if the Eye of Sauron and Cortana had a lovechild.
  • Ties into msn health and fitness? Maybe? Hopefully?
Sheesh I thought that app and platform had everything...
  • Keep dreaming.... MS first removed the ability to track workouts and then made Health and Fitness sync with MSN instead of Health Vault. A peculiar way to improve the app.. /s
  • I've seen this for a while. I have a calendar appointment for My son's swimming lessons and it asked me if I wanted to track that as a workout. I assume if I put something like running with John as a calendar entry, she would ask if I wanted to track that as a workout. It would be neat if it integrated with my Band though.
  • Seems like you have the answer regarding the band that wc couldn't figure out. Well done. Now they will ban you for it.
  • I don't see Lifestyles as a category on my Icon (it goes from food to movies).  But I did just get an update on my Fitbit app.  I was hoping the two were related!
  • Cortana asked me to add it after I added the gym in the Places section of Cortana's notebook
  • Thought she would figure out the gym by herself by now.
  • So far, I haven't received Lifestyles or Showtimes. I live in New Orleans so the update mist be caught in the snowstroms hit the rest of the country..smh.
  • Ben I live in the 7th ward and we have Showtimes so I am guessing it has not hit your part of the city yet
  • Ain't that a blip! MS rolling it out by wards now, lol. I do have pick a winner, the one that doesn't do anything right now, smh
  • And where's Cortana in Portuguese of Brazil? She is taking too long to grace us with his illustrious presence in our Windows Phones!
  • In the Alpha version there's only News and Weather for interests :( I wish I could try these new features
  • I actually saw a retail advertisement here in Australia for 'Lumia 830 with Cortana Alpha'. I tried Cortana Alpha and it just makes Cortana look bad, they should not be advertising that as a feature in my opinion. Also it worries me that they are advertising it, does that mean the Alpha is hanging around? Maybe MS considers Cortana released in those countries now.
  • Cortana asked me about this about a week ago, and I told her to track it. But it doesn't show in my notebook anymore, not sure what happened but I'm sure it'll happen again.
  • It's on my L920 too, I'm in Sweden and have my location set to US
  • I only have two categories, news and weather :(
Is this because I have an HTC 8X which can't get the latest updates? or is it beacuse I'm in Canada?
  • lovely!
