Cuphead isn't even a year old yet, but it's already managed to sell three million copies. Developer Studio MDHR announced today that it reached triple platinum status just ahead of reaching its first anniversary, which is coming up on September 29.

From Studio MDHR:

We're barely past the halfway mark of 2018, and are humbled to announce that Cuphead has already reached over 3 million copies sold! It's hard for us to express just how appreciative we are to everyone who has played and enjoyed our niche little run & gun game with the wacky rubber-hose characters.

To celebrate the occasion, Studio MDHR is putting Cuphead on sale across Steam and Xbox with a 20 percent discount. That drops the price of the game from $19.99 down to $15.99.

Cuphead was certainly one of the most unique games to come out of 2017, with its hand-drawn animation and classic cartoon aesthetic. But that friendly exterior belies a brutally difficult game that has attracted everyone from speedrunners to the masochistic.

In terms of what comes next, Cuphead is gearing up to pick up a fresh DLC pack, called "The Delicious Last Course," which will introduce a new character, new weapons, and much more. The Cuphead team also promises it will have more to reveal as 2018 wears on.
