Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Core Fighters is now free-to-play on Xbox One

Koei Tecmo has now relaunched its Xbox One fighting game Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Core Fighters as a free-to-play game. Players can download the base game, with four characters, for free, and add other fighters for additional fees.

Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round was previously released this year on the Xbox One, with a free trial available for four characters. However, that trial version would not let players purchase additional fighters, which was allowed for the $4.99 Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Core Fighters. Now Koei Tecmo has basically ditched the free, but fixed, trial version and made Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Core Fighters free-to-play with four characters (Ayane, Hayate, Kasumi, and Ryu Hayabusa) that are playable in every mode except Story Mode.

Both Story Mode, along with many more characters and costumes, can be added to the game for additional fees. In addition, there are some special bundle deals that are available for the game from now until Dec. 7:

  • Ninja Clan 1 Costume Set - $8.69 (40% off)
  • Ninja Clan 2 Costume Set - $8.69 (40% off)
  • Ninja Clan 3 Costume Set - $8.69 (40% off)
  • Ninja Clan Complete Set (Special Bundle for this sale only) - $23.91
  • Core Fighters 30 Characters - $26.66 (45% off)
  • Ninja Clan Complete Set + Core Fighters 26 Characters (Special Bundle for this sale only) - $45.98

  • Lots of game news today!
  • Not sure about the xbox version, but the PS4 version is a complete cluster with DLC. Since Core Fighters shares the same DLC with the full game, even if you have the full game, you can accidentally rebuy things you already own with the full game, like the characters and game modes.   Plus, there is OVER $300 is DLC costumes
  • The DLC costumes are easy to ignore, though. You only really need the characters.
  • Wow, giant cluster is right. I imagine they also don't give refunds on rebought items.
  • I've never had trouble getting a refund for any legitimate Xbox purchase-related issue, so I'm sure they would refund it if someone made that mistake.
  •   There are free dlc too.
  • I'm still confused lol
  • Me too... though admittedly, if I gave a rat's **** I might be more motivated to try and figure out what this article is saying. ;-)
  • This has been free on ps4 since launch.
  • That is true, but it was $10 on Xbox One until now.
  • Ugh, the ninjas are the free chars of course. Teleports, projectiles, they are the worst.
  • The breast fighting game out there.
  • Just make a regular game with all fighters and have us purchase DLC constumes. I don't like this nickle and dime strategy.
  • You can buy the full set of fighters and then you have the full game. No need to get the smaller packs if you don't wanna.
  • Killer Instinct executed this free-to-play fighter concept better.
  • might have to add this to my collection of games. need to fill up my hard drive.
  • This has been free to play for months. I downloaded it and got a shed load of achievements back in March. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That's simply not correct. Besides the price scanning websites picking up the drop. Koei Tecmo also sent out a press release. Perhaps it was mistakenly free for a short time in the past.
  • The trial of this game was free. My friends fought me in it using the trial while I used the full game.
