Diablo-like 'Minecraft Dungeons' confirmed for Xbox One, launches in 2020

What you need to know

  • Microsoft just revealed Minecraft Dungeons for Xbox One.
  • The game is a top-down dungeon crawler.
  • It's expected to launch in Spring 2020.
  • You'll be able to preorder it soon.

One of the biggest surprises from E3 2019 was the reveal of Minecraft Dungeons. Many assumed that it would be Minecraft in an enclosed space — played through the first-person perspective — but it turns out that it's a top-down dungeon crawler along the lines of Diablo. Players have amazing abilities with which they can decimate foes.

When Microsoft initially revealed Minecraft Dungeons, the company said that it was exclusive to PC. That doesn't appear to be the case anyone because it was confirmed for Xbox One on stage. Unfortunately, the wait is a little long because the game is launching in Spring 2020.

The gameplay looks smooth and quite deep. Some of the abilities — like an arcane beam shooting out of your hands — is breathtaking. Hopefully we'll learn more about the game in the coming months. It's unclear if it features a story at this point or random encounters. Despite that, we can't wait to get our hands on it next year.

Are you interested in the game? Let us know. It's great to see that the franchise is expanding in new directions. No one expected a Diablo-like game, that's for sure!
