What you need to know

  • Tropico 6 just left Xbox Game Preview.
  • The game is a hilarious city-builder coupled with a dictator simulator.
  • It's Xbox One X Enhanced and renders at 4K resolution on the system.
  • You can purchase it for $60 through the Microsoft Store.

E3 2019 was filled with plenty of surprises, and one of the best one had to be the announcement that Tropico 6 was available on Xbox Game Preview for $50. Since then, the game has gotten much better, but it wasn't the 1.0 experience everyone wanted.

You'll be happy to know that Tropico 6 has exited Xbox Game Preview and is now a proper release. The game comes in at a little over 13 GB so the download shouldn't take that long. We've been playing the game for months on Xbox One and absolutely love it. The console controls work really well — just like Tropico 5 — but there's a lot of added complexity to the game.

In Windows Central's review, Brendan Lowry wrote, "I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into Tropico 6, but I came out in love. It's truly one of the best city-building games of all time, and it has an excellent amount of polish, depth, and satire that all help it feel like a unique experience. The cluttered interface is a downside, but it's hardly one that impacts the overall gameplay much."
