Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt RED, the studio behind The Witcher series, has been working on the new game for half a decade, and while we've heard very little about the game itself — The Witcher 3 expansions and Gwent took precedence — the official Twitter account for Cyberpunk 2077 released a teaser tweet to kick the year off. And 2018 could well be the year we learn (lots) more about the upcoming RPG.

Here's all we know about it so far.

What is Cyberpunk 2077?

What is the world of Cyberpunk all about? The game will be set in the futuristic metropolis Night city in the year 2077, offering an open-world for players to explore, much like The Witcher 3. The game itself will be based on the pen-and-paper tabletop RPG Cyberpunk, created by Mike Pondsmith.

Cyberpunk will be familiar to anyone who knows the Blade Runner films. Think cybernetic implants, advanced computers and technologies, and some things that only our imaginations are capable of reproducing.

CD Projekt RED has been successful in keeping information released to the public to a bare minimum. Bits and pieces have been revealed, including CD Projekt RED visual effects artist Jose Teixeira stating that Cyberpunk 2077 would be far bigger than anything the studio has done before.

CD Projekt RED is best known for creating immersive worlds, full of interesting characters, unique storylines and excellent experiences. The team has taken its time with Cyberpunk 2077 and that can only mean we're in for a treat with a take on the Cyberpunk universe, and we would bet this is going to be huge game.

There's also the fact that Marcin Przybyłowicz, the brains and talent behind the exceptional scores in The Witcher 3, will be tasked with adding ambiance to this upcoming title.

When will Cyberpunk 2077 be released?

Cyberpunk 2077

The game has been in the works for many years now, but CD Projekt RED has yet to speak of a release date. The studio has kept to its guns with the statement that it will be released "when it's done." Luckily, the developer is owned by CD Projekt, which has Gwent and GOG to help finance development and ensure that more than enough time is spent on quality assurance (QA) to get it just right.

The speculation is that Cyberpunk 2077 will be properly announced at some point this year, with a follow-up release in 2019.
