What you need to know

  • Every month, the NPD group shares data of games sold in the U.S.
  • Elden Ring is the bestselling game of February 2022, per NPD.
  • Nintendo Switch was the bestselling console of the month in units and dollar sales.

Elden Ring's meteoric praise is paired with commerical success, as Elden Ring is leading the February 2022 NPD charts.

As shared by senior NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco's fantasy epic Elden Ring claimed the top spot on the charts. Elden Ring was followed by Guerrilla Games' Horizon Forbidden West, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Dying Light 2: Stay Human and Total War: Warhammer 3 in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Notably, Pokemon Legends: Arceus only dropped two places from its January 2022 NPD placement, while Total War: Warhammer 3 achieved fifth place while launching into PC Game Pass. Moving into hardware, the Nintendo Switch was the bestselling console of the month in both units sold and dollar sales. Xbox Series X|S consoles took second place in both measurements.

Below, you can see the top 20 games sold in the U.S. in February 2022. Remember that for NPD, games are ranked by dollar sales, not units sold.

  • This game is going to sell truckloads, mark my words. Already GOTY, I feel sorry for the rest of the industry.
  • So do the rest of the industry, given the comments by a few developers. Those comments are not necessarily representative of the whole industry but, if some are speaking out that way, you know there are others who feel it but aren't saying it.
  • I just wrapped up playing the highest rated Horizon game (Forza Horizon 5), and now I've moved on to playing the highest rated Souls game (Elden Ring). It's a good time to be a gamer.
  • Horizon Forbidden West at #2 is insane being a platform exclusive outselling the likes of Pokémon, CoD etc and those are multiplatform.
  • For what I've seen HFW actually sold more on the Playstation ecosystem then Elden Ring, it's insane how successful these 2 games are, never expected it from Elden Ring in particular, I remember when Souls games were niche.
  • The Horizon games are incredible, they deserve the recognition.
  • In unrelated news, controller repairs have jumped 1000% in the month of March.
