Gears Pop! gets first gameplay footage featuring multiplayer matches

Gears 5 drew all of the attention from fans of the franchise at Microsoft's E3 2018 presentation, but the company also had a few other surprises up its sleeve. Aside from the XCOM-like Gears Tactics, Microsoft announced Gears Pop!. Back then, the publisher said Gears Pop! was a "unique mobile spin" to the Gears of War series. If you're an avid collector of Funko Pop! figurines, then this announcement was probably of great interest to you.

Since the announcement, we hadn't heard much about the title until now. We only knew that it would probably come to Android and iOS down the line. Today, Studio Head of The Coalition Rod Fergusson sat down with and Gears Pop! Lead Game Designer Tyler Bielman to give us update on the game, including a first look at gameplay. According to the team, "Gears Pop! is where Funko Pop! characters come to life to face each other in fun fast-paced explosive real-time multiplayer battles."

The title plays a lot like Plants vs. Zombies. However, instead of battling a computer-controlled opponent that just throws mindless zombies your way, you have to duke it out with another player. This definitely adds another layer of challenge to the experience. Be sure to watch the in-depth video for even more information about Gears Pop!

It looks like Gears Pop! is being tested by a variety of gamers right now, so that's why the developer decided to discuss it. Hopefully the title will be a polished experience when it launches.

  • This doesn't look fun. I was hoping for a more lego game type experience.
  • Same. Was hoping for more of a
    Lego feel.
Really don't know what to think right now.
  • It doesn't look fun. They should have made a POP looking version of Gears of War.
  • Honestly not sure what to think
  • Not the style of game I'm into.
  • I've never liked these dolls. Idk the idea of every character looking the same is like
    bland.
But I'm sure there's an audience for this like there is one for the doll merch themselves
  • I think it's cool. What do you expect from a mobile game.
