What you need to know

  • Halo Infinite, from 343 Industries and Xbox Game Studios, pairs a premium campaign adventure with a free-to-play multiplayer experience.
  • It's been expected for months that 343i would eventually add fresh story content to Halo Infinite's expansive campaign.
  • A new job posting from Microsoft continues to reinforce this idea, and gives some hints as to how these additions will arrive.
  • The job listing, seeking a writing director, suggests Halo Infinite may gain "Seasonal story content," possibly connected to the free-to-play multiplayer.

Halo Infinite is the latest generation of Halo, and it adopts a "game-as-a-service" strategy to provide an endless stream of content to players for years to come, mostly to the free-to-play multiplayer. Halo Infinite's campaign is already an impressive open-world adventure, but it has long been expected new story DLC will arrive at some point.

Thanks to a job listing from Microsoft for a writing director at 343 Industries, we may have additional insight into what form this story content will take when it comes to Halo Infinite.

The posting calls for someone who is able to collaborate with 343i's existing teams to "create highly innovative and engaging serial narrative content" for the Halo Infinite multiplayer experience, and can "work closely with the Halo franchise team to ensure Seasonal story content both leverages existing Halo lore and adds exciting new chapters to the larger Halo story."

According to the job posting, Halo Infinite is probably looking at multiple story expansions in the future, which should excite fans of Halo's campaign experiences. One thing that's still unclear is in what manner this DLC may arrive. For one, the job posting indicates story content may be connected to Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer.

This could mean story DLC releases will coincide with the release of new multiplayer Seasons. Season 2, which is expected to release sometime in May 2022, is adding co-op support to the Halo Infinite campaign, so this approach wouldn't be that far-fetched. It could also mean story content will be added as part of the Halo Infinite Battle Pass or as limited-time events through the free-to-play multiplayer. It could even be a combination of both, with Halo Infinite's campaign scoring expansions from multiple sources.

We'll have to wait a bit longer before we learn more about 343i's plans to update Halo Infinite and its campaign, but good things may be on the horizon for what is already one of the best Xbox games for first-person shooter fans. In case you missed it, Halo Infinite's mid-Season 1 update just released with a hefty batch of bug fixes and improvements.
