Why buy the Surface Laptop 7?

We've called the Surface Laptop 7 a lot of things here at Windows Central. The "MacBook Air Killer," "the clamshell form factor perfected," and the best Windows on ARM laptop are among the most effusive.

Thanks to the Snapdragon X Elite inside this model, the Surface Laptop 7 delivers excellent performance and battery life. The keyboard and haptic trackpad of the Surface Laptop 7 are among the best available, and its Dolby Vision-certified IPS panel is easy on the eyes.

Because of its Snapdragon X Elite processor, the Surface Laptop 7 performs well when plugged in or unplugged. Our Senior Editor Zac Bowden discussed the battery life of the PC in our Surface Laptop 7 review:

The Windows on Arm architecture Bowden referred to used to be a major limitation when shopping for a PC. But app compatibility has improved greatly over the years. Over 100 popular apps are now natively compiled for Windows on Arm, and most of those that are not can run through emulation.

The Surface Laptop 7 is a Copilot+ PC — the best Copilot+ PC for what it's worth — and the laptop gets access to select next-gen AI features.

Bowden called the Surface Laptop 7 "basically perfect" in 2024 when he first reviewed the device. The laptop has aged well since then thanks to its modern design. At around $1,000, the Surface Laptop 7 is a great bargain.
