What you need to know

  • HP's 1000 series EliteBooks are getting updated
  • New 6-core Intel processors, and options for 5G.
  • Expected to hit markets globally in July.
  • Thinner bezels gives a 89 percent screen-to-body ratio.

HP's premium line of business-class laptops under the banner of EliteBook 1000 series is being updated for mid-2020. The popular EliteBook x360 1030 (13.3-inch) and EliteBook x360 1040 (14-inch) are hitting the seventh generation (G7) of design and hardware, and with that comes the availability of 5G modems, and new refreshed specs.

Both new laptops are now 6.3 percent smaller, thanks to a reduction in that lower display bezel. HP now claims a healthy 89 percent screen-to-body ratio, which makes these EliteBooks look much more modern.

RAM is available up to 32GB (LPDDR4-2933) and up to 2TB PCIe NVMe SSD, which are impressive for such small Ultrabooks. HP is continuing with double security options too with fingerprint and infrared for Windows Hello.

Displays range from full HD with HP Sure View privacy screens (up to 1,000 nits of brightness), or a premium 4K UHD options with HDR400, touch, and 550 nits of brightness. There's also a battery-friendly touch full HD display.

Battery life is also getting a bump with a claimed 29 hours of usage (from a massive 78.5Whr battery). Still, the EliteBook 1000 series has always had excellent and long last hardware, so putting it past 12 hours of real-world usage on a single charge seems doable.

Look for the new EliteBook x360 1030 (13.3-inch) and EliteBook x360 1040 (14-inch) to be available sometime in July. Pricing has not yet been disclosed.
