What you need to know

  • The Initiative is a new studio from Microsoft.
  • It's working on possibly a "AAAA" game.
  • According to a developer's LinkedIn post, the game features "weapons, gadgets, and a camera surveillance system."
  • The title will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

The Initiative is a new studio Microsoft formed in Santa Monica, California, to produce "AAAA" games. The team wants to produce Microsoft Exclusive on the level of God of War. While we don't know what the team is working on currently, do have some idea what some of the mechanics will be.

Today, Twitter's "Klobrille" noticed that on LinkedIn, a developer revealed that The Initiative's upcoming, unannounced game runs on Unreal Engine 4 and features "various weapons, gadgets, and a camera surveillance system." While weapons and gadgets are common in many games, the camera surveillance system sounds intriguing. In many ways, it reminds me of Watch Dogs, but since that franchise belongs to Ubisoft, it seems like either a new franchise or maybe a Perfect Dark reboot. Only time will tell.

  • So... Watch_Dogs? That would be cool I like the game but the characters are a bit dry...
  • I came here to say the same thing!
  • Well those old enough to remember Perfect Dark being thr N64 swan song for graphics and multi-player will undoubtedly tell you this means Perfect Dark.
  • My bet is on a Perfect Dark Reboot!
  • It’s about time, that Microsoft takes a look at there internal IPs, and evaluate them and just reboot them or reimagine them. I want them to also create new franchises, that give us some cool characters and stories. Enough with multiplayer games, there are to many in the market.
  • I agree there are to many mp games out. We need more single player on Xbox. Sony has proven that the single player experience is alive and well.
  • I hope it’s Perfect Dark, as I would love a reimagine of this franchise. It could also be the stealth game that Microsoft showed off, when the Coalition, was named Black Tusk studio. They had a stealth game they teased and we have never seen it ever since. I would love a gritty Cyber punk 2077 vibe.
  • I think it's probably Perfect Dark to be honest. It makes the most sense to me at this point.
  • Camera surveillance doesn't really sound interesting to me, they would need to show some unique feature for me to get excited about a completely unknown game.
  • Perfect Dark, or did they buy the Splinter Cell IP from Ubisoft?
  • Who in their right mind wants a Perfect Dark reboot ? Rare are probably the most overrated studio of all time. They lucked out once with Golden Eye and... that's about it. They haven't produced anything significant in 20 years.
Another studio using one of their obscure (and failed) IPs for a 150$+ million dollar game is just a criminal act.
  • Sea of Thieves is doing well. I don't play it, but I heard that it has a solid player base.
  • Here we go.... You realize that games are subjective, right?
  • You realize Perfect Dark wasn't a failiure right??? Was the best first person shooter of the N64/PS1 Era. Had a great story and amazing visuals.
  • This is 100% a Perfect Dark reboot. From the 4 concept art images we had the other day. And now these gadgets and camera survelaince? It's 100% Perfect Dark. And I bet you 100% it's a mix between The Last Of Us gameplay and Splinter Cell. And it's going to look absolutely unreal graphically. Some of the names working at The Initiative are top draw. Expect Ray Tracing, superb animation and a living breathing game world. I can't wait to see what all these studios have in store for us. Literally every MS studio is making Series X ganes.
