  • Echo is an artificial intelligence created from the mind of Dr. Mina Liao.
  • Echo is likely to be available on March 23, based on previous hints from Blizzard.

Blizzard Entertainment announced the next hero for Overwatch is Echo, a character that has been seen in both the animated short "Reunion" as well as the "Zero Hour" short for Overwatch 2. The character's status as a new hero was revealed as part of a brand new origin story for Echo that details who she is and how she came to be.

Based on the video, it appears that Echo is an artifical intelligence construct that was created from the mind of Dr. Mina Liao, one of the six founding members of the Overwatch organization and one of the people who helped create the omnics. It will be interesting to see how this character fits into the larger Overwatch story, as well as how she will impact the game itself when she goes live in the game. As of now, it's expected that Echo will be playable on March 23 based on a recent hint by Blizzard.
