Blizzard Entertainment announced the next hero for Overwatch is Echo, a character that has been seen in both the animated short "Reunion" as well as the "Zero Hour" short for Overwatch 2. The character's status as a new hero was revealed as part of a brand new origin story for Echo that details who she is and how she came to be.
Based on the video, it appears that Echo is an artifical intelligence construct that was created from the mind of Dr. Mina Liao, one of the six founding members of the Overwatch organization and one of the people who helped create the omnics.
