What you need to know

  • 2K released a short teaser video for PGA Tour 2K21, its first licensed pro golf game.
  • There hasn't been an official PGA video game for consoles since EA's Rory McIlroy PGA Tour in 2015.
  • More details on PGA Tour 2K21 are coming on May 14.

Considering how popular the EA Sports PGA Tour franchise was when Tiger Woods was at the height of his powers, it's a little bit surprising that officially licensed PGA golf video games for consoles have been in such a rut. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour released back in 2015, and since then ... nothing, aside from The Golf Club Featuring the PGA Tour two years ago.

That's about to change: 2K Sports is gearing up to give golf the same treatment it does basketball, dropping a teaser video for PGA TOUR 2K21, which you can watch below.

Aside from that little bit of footage and the quick look at TPC at Sawgrass, why should you be excited for PGA Tour 2K21? Well, as PCGamesN notes, it's being developed by HB Studios, the same people who did The Golf Club games, which got better reviews with each new release. Put that experience together with what 2K already does so well with presentation and story in its NBA games and you start to imagine where this new game could go, especially on next-gen consoles.

PGA Tour 2K21 already has an official site, though for now you won't find anything there except the same teaser and a form to sign up for more info. Fortunately, the wait won't be long for more details, as the video promises they are coming on May 14. In the meantime, just keep practicing your sweet video game golf swing in your head, as you'll be dusting it off before too long.
