What you need to know

  • Minecraft is a global gaming hit, with support for many different platforms, including virtual reality.
  • It's been rumored to be planned for Sony's PSVR for Playstation 4 for a long while now, but there's been no confirmation.
  • That may be about to change, with a leaked development build showing support in Minecraft for PSVR.
  • It's been in testing since April, apparently, and is now labeled as "Feature Complete."

People have been clamoring for Minecraft to go ahead and support the PSVR for a long while now, especially since the game is already available for PC VR headsets and even a mobile VR headset made by Samsung. Now that the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft is on Playstation 4, there's nothing stopping Mojang Studios from fully embracing all the features the platform has to offer, including PSVR support. In fact, support for VR may have been in testing starting all the way back in April.

According to a report by MP1ST a leaked development build that differs from the build Minecraft is currently on in the public shows support for the PSVR, and is now labeled as "PSVR Feature Complete." The team behind it has been apparently testing PSVR support for several months now, going all the way back to April 2020.

There's been no official confirmation that PSVR support is happening, but it only makes sense as Minecraft becomes more intimate with the Playstation 4 platform, recently enabling cross-play between various platforms using Xbox Live. Enabling PSVR support would complete Mojang Studios' effort to embrace Sony's gaming platform. Hopefully we'll hear more over the next few weeks / months, but in the meantime we'll just have to sit tight and wait.

  • PlayStation - Xbox 1-0
  • Did you mean to say Playstation (1), Xbox (0)? Unless PSVR is much higher resolution and much higher refresh rate, then I don't see the point of it. Why would I want to play a game in reduced resolution and refresh rate just so I can have it in VR and have horrible eye strain.
  • You obviously never used VR. The experience is so good that you forget about how **** the resolution is. The FPS in PSVR is more than enough, it's above the majority of VR devices with it having a 120hz display.
