What you need to know

  • Rumors suggest that Razer will soon release a laptop with a Ryzen 5000 series processor.
  • Specifically, the laptop will reportedly have a Ryzen 9 5900HX and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU.
  • This would be the first Ryzen-powered Razer gaming laptop.

Razer makes some of the best gaming laptops around, and all of its laptops have one thing in common; their processor maker. Up to this point, all Razer laptops have been powered by Intel CPUs. That looks like it's about to change, as recent rumors suggest that an upcoming Razer laptop will run on a Ryzen 9 5900HX processor.

A tweet by well-known leaker "rogame" says that the upcoming Razer laptop will run on a Ryzen 5900HX CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. A follow-up tweet clarifies that it appears to be a 14-inch laptop (via PC Gamer).

The AMD 5000-series mobile processors have impressive figures, including the 5900HX that's rumored to be in this upcoming Razer laptop.

Our Cale Hunt shares insight regarding the high-end Ryzen CPU:

The Ryzen 9 5000 H-series lineup has the most entries at four total. The Ryzen 9 5900HS and the Ryzen 9 5900HX are the more standard CPUs, with 35W and 45W+ respectively. Yes, the "HX" version can draw more power as needed for better performance, and it should be reserved for larger laptops. The "HS" version is again reserved for thin and light notebooks.

Both rogame and PC Gamer's sources have talked about an upcoming 14-inch laptop from Razer, so it seems likely that the rumors are accurate. PC Gamer speculates that Razer may keep its AMD and Intel offerings in different segments.

If these reports are accurate, the upcoming Razer laptop should be very powerful, thanks to a combination of the Ryzen 9 5900HX and the RTX 3060.
