Red Dead Redemption 2 ships on multiple discs for Xbox One

A few days ago, outlets began reporting that the PlayStation 4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 came on two discs. Images of a two-disc PlayStation 4 pack were all over social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Due to the marketing agreement for Red Dead Online between Sony and Rockstar Games, many supposed insiders claimed that the Xbox One version would only ship on one disc and require a massive download.

Luckily, the game is already available in select regions and we can confirm that the Xbox One version also comes in two discs. An image provided to us by an anonymous source confirms this.

After a robbery goes wrong in the town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals or loyalty to the gang who raised him.

In our review, we said Red Dead Redemption 2 "is one of the best games ever made, setting a new standard for open world titles going forward." The game should launch on October 26, 2018 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 systems. It only runs at native 4K resolution on Xbox One X.

  • Was wondering how they were planning on shipping a 100GB+ game physically. Thankfully it wasn't the worst case scenario (1 disc, download the rest of the game)
  • Oddly, my download is only (only...lol) 89gb.
  • When you launch the game it unpacks textures and slices off another 18 GB of hard drive space for the game.
  • Good to know, ty
  • Are you on a X with 4k textures?
  • I am!
  • worst case would be no disc, just a download code in the physical case you bought
  • "many supposed insiders claimed that the Xbox One version would only ship on one disc and require a massive download."
Really? I've not seen any articles about this. Do you have a link?
  • Check Resetera. There are whole pages about this.
  • You just posted the name of a forum. I've searched and I haven't found a topic about the XB1 version only having one disk.
Do you have an actual link or at least name some of those "many supposed insiders"?
  • No links, none of the "many supposed insiders".
I guess that says it all. So much for this article...
  • Well now I know when I do get around to buying this game(still haven't beaten GTA V) that it'll definitely be a digital download. I have no desire to go back to swapping discs. I have been spoiled. It's so much more convenient to not have to hunt for a disc every time you get ready to play a different game.
  • You won't have to swap discs while playing, it's just that the game takes up too much space for a single Bluray, so the install will require two discs.
