Red Dead Redemption 2's install size hits 107 GB for Xbox One

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on October 26, 2018, and is available now for pre-order starting at $59.99 (opens in new tab). The open-world Wild West shooter is destined to be a hit, if Rockstar Games' track record is any indication, and today, we've learned how much of a battering it's going to deliver to our console storage.

On Rockstar's support page, the developer listed the require install sizes across Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and they're pretty beefy.

Disc Installation:

PS4 - 99 GB installation space Xbox One - 107 GB installation space

Digital Installation:

PS4 - 99 GB installation space with an additional 50GB for the installation process Xbox One - 107 GB installation space

For those who pre-ordered digitally, you will be able to begin pre-loading the game this Friday, October 19, at 12AM ET.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost certain to be a huge hit, given the reputation Rockstar has built up for itself on the back of Grand Theft Auto and the previous Red Dead Redemption title. Given the game's install size, you can almost guarantee a huge open world with next-level detail, but we'll have to wait until the October 26 launch date to find out more. If you've already made up your mind, you can pre-order the game now on Amazon or via Microsoft.

  • Which now begs the question "Is this some kind of crazy compression to make it all fit on disc, or will there be a mandatory download?" Not talking about a day 1 patch to fix things that were found to be broken after discs were pressed, but will you need to download anything to go from beginning to end of the game if you can bypass any glitches/bugs?
  • RDR2 is the first game to come on 2 blu-rays on the PS4 so either it requires additional download on XBox or it also comes in 2 blu-rays.
  • I believe it is 2 discs on Xbox as well. At least that is what my co-worker just told me. Digital for me though.
  • There's a title I won't be getting digitally. That's a full 1/6th of my monthly data allowance.
  • Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous that we have data caps in the 21st century especially such low ones that downloading a few games a month blows through it. I have a 1TB cap and I could still easily blow it by downloading too many off my backlog at the same time.
  • That's what happens for classing ISPs not being classed as utility providers. Most of the world has unlimited and affordable ISP contracts for fibre + broadband.
  • Mine is currently downloading on xbox one x showing 88.15 GB.
  • Can you provide an update? Did it hit 100% yet?
  • Yeah, but I just noticed in the Microsoft store that it says approximate size 88.15 as well.
  • extra GB = extra good buy!
  • I was under the impression that RDR2 would be an Enhanced for Xbox X title. If that is true, then I'd expect the size to be bigger on Xbox X (enhancements) than on PS4.
