Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book now up for pre-order on Amazon [Update: Best Buy, too!]

Microsoft took the wraps off of the all-new Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book just yesterday, with pre-orders going up direct from Microsoft almost immediately. If you'd rather put your order in through Amazon, however, you can now do so, with the retailer offering several configurations of each device, fulfilled by Microsoft.

For the Surface Pro 4, you're looking at several different configuration options ranging from the base Core M with 128GB of storage model all the way up to the Core i7 with 512 GB of storage. There are a couple of gaps to be aware of, especially if you had your heart set on and i7 model with 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, but you're pretty well covered otherwise.

Likewise, the Surface Book has a few different configuration options available, but the Core i7 model is only available with a fully maxed out 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. If you wanted less storage or RAM, you'll have to deal with a Core i5 processor if you're ordering through Amazon.

Hands-on with the Microsoft Surface Book

If you're interested in checking out the Amazon listings, be sure to hit up the links below. And let us know in the comments which configuration you're planning to pick up!

Update: And just like that, Best Buy has announced pre-orders for both the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book as well. You can find a link to pre-orders on Best Buy's site below if you're interested.

  • Nice, might have to get rid of that old surface pro 1st generation ;)
  • You hung onto SP1 for this long? You deserve the upgrade!
  • Yea I gotta admit that it's in pretty rough shape. Still running good though ;)
  • Haha, I feel like Panos Panay should personally deliver a Surface Pro 4 to you just for hanging onto the original for so long, impressive!
  • I use my SP1 everyday since February 2013. It still runs and looks great! Looking forward to getting the SP4 though.
  • So...back to the article... Theoretically, this means that the SP4 & surface book are also (going to be) available to any of the numerous countries Amazon (can) ships to...that's fantastic news..
  • So beautiful
  • Hopefully these will end up in brick and mortars soon.
  • Boner fuel!
  • why is the fingerprint scanner absent in surface book?
  • Because your eyes tell more than your fingers
  • What if you have no eyes!
  • What if you have no arm.... think they are blown up. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • No eyes means no need of surface book. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Panos said, and many have missed, that this (the FPS), was really only meant to allow biometrics on SP3, since SP4 and SBook have windows hello support.
  • Anyone can cut off your finger to unlock a tablet, but they can gauge your eyes or face for that matter to open it that way. Its more secure when you still have your head in tact.

  • Surface Book features Intel's RealSense camera, so no need for fingerprints when smiling at your computer will do it for you. :)
  • Surface tablets seem to be quite popular and well made. Why aren't their sales getting the attention of the developers?
  • Well, universal apps for facebook, instagram and Audible are coming.
  • Great machines. What is ridiculous is the pricing. The price difference between SP4 i7 16GB 256-512GB is € 500.
  • That's deliberate, create demand, show Oems THIS is what you should be making as your premium class device.
  • I'm not complaining about the price in general. I'm complaining that the price difference between 256 GB and 512 GB models is not justified.
  • What are curent price differences between 256 and 512 SSDs?
  • The price difference is more like € 100.
  • This isn't using your typical SSD drive, not all storage is the same.  Not that the surface uses this type of storage but look at the difference in price between a 128 and a 256GB microsd.
  • I was at the Windows store today checking out the 950 XL, and noticed to my delight a new tabbing feature when you hold the back button down for a second, multiple windows display at once... hard to explain but def awesome.  Surprised Windows Central hasn't talked about this (or have they?)
  • It has been like that in windows 10 previews for a while on big phones.
  • The phones are on display already?
  • Wait, do they have them in the MS Store for demo already?
  • Yup, they got all the stuff in store quick. All for demo now, even before preordering has begun!
  • If that's the case then I need to go to an MS store and touch a Surface Book to the point where it's borderline inappropriate. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That's been in the Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview for some months now, but it's still awesome! I'm glad they're taking advantage of the larger screen real estate. Snap on Mobile, please?
  • @Dan, is there any reason to pre-order from someone other than Microsoft? Can you list out pros/cons if there are?
  • For me - I get points from best buy and can drive 25 minutes to get it.
  • I get 6-12 months financing for both amazon and best buy (number of months depends on $ amount)... Actually best buy financing goes up to 24 months I think
  • My amazon credit account gives me 12 months no interest financing on orders over $500. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Just pre-ordered a sp4 from best buy!
  • Target and WalMart needs to get in board
  • Saw that Costco is offering pre-orders as well. They offer a 2 year warranty and include the type cover in their price so could be worth it for members. Sadly, the i7 model is still not expected to ship until end of November, but it's not too bad of a price compared to getting through the MS store or Best Buy.
  • Costco too.
  • I hope they have them out for demo.
  • Ms band 2 is available for preorder through best buy as well so pumped
  • Wow, so much early support from retailers. We've come a long way since 2012. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Gotta give Ballmer props for being willing to take write-offs in the name of long term success. Definitely working out for them, the Surface line-up has reinvented the industry, it seems. :)
  • If only i had money
  • I know the pain
  • That's all great but when is the Surface Book coming to the UK? I'm also still rocking a Surface Pro 1 :-)
  • My 1st Gen pro got stolen just thos morning & missing it so much, how can I afford to by a new one?
