Hail a more affordable cab in London with Kabbee for Windows Phone

London is an expensive place, being the capital of England. Catching taxis (or cabs) can also prove daunting for those who know just how high prices are for a quick journey. Luckily, there are some services out there that are looking to change how this all works and Kabbee is one of them. The service compares pricing against available fleets and black cab drivers to get you the best deal, and now an official Windows Phone app has been released.

Microsoft and Google team up for LGBT InterTech Diversity Forum

Sure, Microsoft and Google may be trying to murder each other when it comes to technology, but the two companies can always team up for a good cause. This week in London, the two companies along with others including Amazon, Dell, and Nokia came together to launch the brand new InterTech Diversity Forum for LGBT+ people (since when did we get a “plus” added?).

O2 has partnered with Virgin Media to provide free Wifi connectivity to its customers throughout the London Underground train system, affectionately known as the Tube. Virgin Media has hotspots in more than 120 Tube stations and has already partnered with O2 competitors Vodafone and EE, leaving Three as the only major UK carrier to not offer this service to their users.

Rumor: Nokia to reveal "Catwalk" in London on May 14

Nokia's new product announcement in London is less than a week away, and as usual, the product to be revealed just got leaked in advance. Citing unnamed insider source, Chinese tech site WPDang claims that Nokia's London event is about just one device: the previously leaked "Catwalk" aka Lumia 925 930.

Catwalk reportedly sports a shell design with a mix of polycarbonate and aluminum, as depicted in the leaked picture up above.

Coverage of Nokia's 'This is Lumia' light show with Deadmau5 from London

Nokia and Deadmau5 came together once again in the name of Lumia and produced an event of lights and magic for many who managed to attend the action in London on Wednesday evening. A light show was hosted, as well as an aftermath concert at Electric Brixton, which shared a live stream of the London square with those who were watching online.

Nokia's Deadmau5 Event Live Stream

If you couldn't get tickets to the Nokia Deadmau5 Event or simply won't be in the London area today, you can catch all the excitement online. The event is to celebrate the successful launch of Nokia's latest Windows Phones, the Lumia 920 and 820.

The Deadmau5 event starts at 8PM GMT and you can catch it here. Our London Staff (Jay, Rich and Rob) should be in attendance and will report back later on all the goodness that was on hand.

Thanks, korggy, for the tip!

Tickets for the Nokia + Deadmau5 event in London now available

Nokia's Deadmau5 event has opened up to the public, with tickets available for everyone to grab while they still last. We're expecting a large show with the Canadian artist blowing the roof off with intense sounds. Invites for London Windows Phone 8 event rolling out

Microsoft appears to be pushing out the golden envelopes for the final reveal-all of Windows Phone 8. The event is scant on actual details but the data is locked in for 5pm GMT on October 29th, London. This matches the upcoming event in San Francisco.

The events held so far have seen journalists physically restricted from properly playing with the OS, so aside from videos and SDKs precious few have any idea how well it works on a real device.

London Travel Live updated to version 4 with augmented reality and 50% off

London Travel Live updated with augmented reality

London Travel Live is a useful app for those who either frequently roam London or are simply visiting for the day. Sporting useful features that guide users around the big smoke make it a requirement for anyone who doesn't wish to get lost. We last covered the app back in April when version 3.1 was released into the wild. Now we're back with news of 4.0 reaching Windows Phone owners.

Getting lost and found with Windows Phone and Nokia Drive 3.0

At the start of the year I took up driving with gusto, you see, being a Londoner I have really had little need of a car. For one reason or another, it had started to become a nuisance not driving so I decided to change my wicked, public transport loving ways and get a license to burn fossil fuels. I took an intensive course and recently passed. During the process of getting my license I bought a Lumia 800, of course, it is a wonderful device but wanted it for those free and extensive driving maps. So how does Nokias’s mapping software get on? I have been testing it for a few weeks now, read on to see how well it works.

Official Heathrow Airport Guide lands in the Marketplace

Should you be traveling to or through London's Heathrow Airport, there is now an official app for your Windows Phone to help you find your way around the airport and monitor arrival/departure times.

The Heathrow Airport Guide is rather impressive with the amount of information it provides not only with flights but just getting around the airport. Airport information covers maps, shops, restaurants, parking, baggage claims, internet access, and more.

Windows Phone Central's Roundup of the 2012 Olympic Game apps

[With the Olympics kicking off tonight, we figured we would bump our roundup of apps for Windows Phone that will keep you up to date on the massive sporting event. -- Daniel]

The official Olympic app hit the Marketplace a few days ago, London 2012, and these are a few of the alternatives that stood out to us. Some stand out stronger than others and some have features that have them stand out a little.  Also remember that this is just a sampling of what is available. The number of Olympic apps at last count was pushing thirty.  If you've got a favorite Olympic app that didn't make the cut, feel free to share in the comments.

WPUG wrap up with Windows Phone Developer Day on the horizon

Attending developers prepping for presentation

Last week, Wednesday 18th to be exact, we headed to the Windows Phone User Group meetup in London. The Shooting Star was the venue of the day's presentations and talks about Windows, Windows Phone, apps and other miscellaneous topics. It's a perfect chance for developers to pitch ideas, make contacts, receive help and advice, and meet us folk from Windows Phone Central.

The reason we pop along is simple - to help you (the developing community) receive as much exposure to our readership and beyond as possible. Without developers, apps and games we wouldn't have the same complete Windows Phone experience we have today, so it's important we provide developers with the opportunities to drive more traffic their way. From reviews to update coverage, Windows Phone Central has the means to help developers kick-start promotion and marketing.
