Beer lovers rejoice as Untappd gets major makeover in 2.0 for Windows Phone

If you like to drink beer (and who doesn't) then you want to grab Untappd 2.0, now live in the Windows Phone Store. The free Untappd service lets users look up beers and check-in, record ratings, upload photos, notes and sharing the information socially. Users can even earn badges or follow people for recommendations on beer.

The previous app for Windows Phone was infamously a Phone Gap app, meaning it was not actually native, but rather a port with limited functionality. This limitation seems to change with 2.0, which looks to be a native app. Even better, the Untappd developers have included a rather lengthy changelog. Let's take a look!

Untappd and beer fans should download Hoppd from the Windows Store

There’s about seven months to go until we hit October. Which is a great month for a little thing called Oktoberfest. We’ve started practicing and should be good to go hard when the festivities roll around. One way we keep track of all the beer we consume is a social network called Untappd. It’s a great place to connect with your fellow beer aficionados. We’ve looked at the official app before, but now we’re looking at a third-party app for Windows 8. We can nearly guarantee you’ll be downloading Hoppd when we finish this post. Let’s check it out.

Tapped comes to Windows Phone, instantly becomes the best Untappd app

Untappd gets image uploading restored, allows you to once again share your brews

It was way back in May when the official Untappd app arrived for Windows Phone 8. The popular beer social network is certainly a niche service, but one that is growing in popularity. While the app itself is a PhoneGap release, meaning it’s not natively coded for Windows Phone, it is still better than nothing.

Late last night, version 1.1 of the app finally went live in the Store and it brings along with a handful of fixes, including the ability to upload images (which was broke) and the capacity to share to Twitter and Facebook.

Sometimes official isn’t always better in the app world. Remember the first Foursquare app on Windows Phone back in the day? It was pretty bad, which is why Jeff Wilcox created 4th & Mayor, a Foursquare app that many consider to be one of the best apps of its kind. Well, the same situation is shaping up with Untappd, the social beer network that put an official app in the Store back in April. Untappd for Windows Phone teased on Instagram

Beer has had quit the resurgence for smaller breweries the past few years. Different apps and services have sprung up to connect fans of craft beers with each other. Untappd is arguably one of the more popular social networks for the beer aficionado. We first reported it coming to Windows Phone back at the end of January, and now a little teaser on Untappd's Instagram shows the app might be coming any day now.

Drink up! Untappd social app coming soon to Windows Phone 8

Untappd, the social network for those who like to spend their free time relaxing in their local with a well-poured pint, have recently announced that they are working on bringing an app to the Windows Phone 8 Store. What’s more they are anticipating having it released before the end of March, as revealed in a blog post picked up by our sister site CrackBerry.

Featuring the ability to discover popular establishments as you travel, as well as which beers come with the highest recommendation, Untappd brings together ideas from other popular networks (Foursquare, Twitter) such as badges and a stream showing what your friends are drinking.
