Verizon's prepaid plans getting more data at no extra cost

Verizon Wireless has announced that it is increasing the data offered on its prepaid phone plans. The carrier's $45 per month plan now features 2GB of data, up from 1GB, while the $60 plan has gone from 3GB to 5GB.

Both of these plans also feature unlimted talk and text. You can still add more data if you need it, with $5 more a month netting you an extra 500MB for 30 days, while $10 and $20 get you 1GB or 3GB, respectively, with that data lasting for 90 days.

Verizon also offers additional prepaid data when you sign up for automatic payments. Customers on the $45 plan getting 3GB total, and $60 plan customers getting a total of 6GB.

  • which plan? 4g, 3g, 2g or 1g.
  • Big deal Verizon 1 extra gb ain't nothing to get excited about
  • Considering Verizon's reputation, it is.
  • Fun fact: In France, we can get 50GB data for 19.99€.
  • I have to ask... How does one use up 50gigs of data a month? I use my phone a hell of a lot, and rarely get to 5 gigs a month. 50???? Lol how do you guys do it in France?
  • Tether.
  • poor phones must get burned alive if they tether multiple devices.
  • 950XL on Ulta.Me $20 a month tethers off my Icon Verizon Plan and it's Great!!
  • It's called a socialist government and it's why the economy in France is shrinking down to nothing right now.
  • With unlimited continent-wide talk and text? You have to compare continent-wide because the U.S. is a gigantic area compared to France. And, constitutionally, the U.S. is technically 50 separate countries. Keep in mind that Canada and the U.S. have vastly lower population densities than Europe as we have about the same number of people but spread over many time the area. That's very expensive for wireless carriers to cover.
  • That looks like unlimited data, probably use it if you stream 1080p movies. Here Vodafone has 3GB for 10€ contracts.
  • That's pretty good. I'm with AT&T with the grandfathered unlimited data plan. Just checked my data usage for last month: 11GB and that's with WiFi at home and in the office. I think streaming music in the car & at the gym is to blame. Heaven help me when I have to change plans
  • Same here.
  • I still can't get that, I got a similar thing going. WiFi at work and home, often I use the WiFi at the gym but not always. And yeah sometimes in the car ride I may stream but not always I often listen to FM radio. Point being I can never get to 11 gigs. Never, I barely make it to 5 gigs and I'm on Verizon.
  • My usage went up with that messaging bug. Should go back down this month but I have trouble reaching 6GB and that's streaming music 4 days a week
  • I used 1.5GB cellular and 8.6GB on WiFi on the last 30 days.
  • That's pretty good actually.
  • Oh wow that's expensive. I'm on 2 GB LTE, unlimited calls and texting, 100 min/mb EU roaming for about 13$ in Germany. Network is O2 who are nothing special but are decent. Seems like telephony is super expensive in the US..
  • Expensive, but the only option sometimes (like for me) when your work is on a remote site.
  • I pay 14.95 for 3 GB LTE ( option to buy 3 GB more is 6.00) and calls /sms are 9cents. Prepaid Simyo Posted via the Blackberry VKB on my LG Flex 2
  • Won't work for GSM but CDMA. They use upgraded 2G as a standard connection.
  • It would also be nice if Verizon showed the least bit of interest in WP.
  • Yes
  • I have unlimited data, voice and text for 80 bucks on T-Mobile Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Unlimited talk, text and data for 39 dollars a month. Very happy wind mobile customer
  • Wow,,,and i was happy with $80 lol is wind a US carrier? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Why data is this much expensive in US??is it 4g or 5g??
$10 for 1gb extension Is a lot looking from India. We get 1gb 3g data for about a dollar. We get unlimited broadband for $10 a month
  • :D
  • 4gLTE
  • Lol. From what carrier do you get 1GB for a dollar? Last I checked, it's at least $4-5 for Airtel and Vodafone. And that $10 for unlimited broadband comes at a sucky 1-2Mbps speed.
  • Too bad VZW could care less about WPs; they sold us 928s but now they tell us they are non vzw phones; zero support. And don't even think of trying to put a flagship WP on their network!!! Whatever! the new data plans will work great with the new Droid Samsung's were trading our 928s disappointed with WP and Verizon...
  • Don't do it. Don't give up. My phone still works.
  • Yep, sure does. I have the Icon, it is still a great phone now and the 928 probably takes better pics in low-light. Stick with it. If you must, go iPhone or don't trade in this phone so you can reactivate it from time to time.
  • There is no "Droid" Samsung btw. Droid on Verizon is specifically Motorola. It's a branding thing. As for Samsung, seriously don't do it. I'm telling you, you will be calling in cursing you're phone and the support reps when your charging port stops working properly, your screen goes blank, or your device factory resets itself and you've been locked out for 72 Hours due to the Google Untrusted Factory Reset policy. If you must leave Windows, go iOS. Screenshot this post and find me when your phones do any of the above after your return period is up.
  • Actually Droid is Verizon's android branding for their phones not just Moto. HTC (Droid Eris, Droid Incredible 1,2,3 and the Droid DNA) and Samsung (Droid Charge) are two device makers that instantly come to mind.
  • I use Boost and get unlimited calls and SMS plus 3GB per month plus 2GB extra every weekend. All for $40 per month. It uses the Telstra network so works in most places in the country. It's fast enough for me but does not go onto 4G. Stays at 3G all the time. We have no house internet so our phones are our only internet. So no movies for us. We go for a walk instead!
  • Wish At&t would let me get 3 gigs extra for $20 on gophone. They just recently started giving 5 gigs on the $60 monthly plan. I recently had a bad experience while switching to Cricket so looks like I'm a lifer on Gp.
  • Sorry no, wind is Canadian. They don't carry WP, though so I always have to buy my phones elsewhere. At one point they did carry the HTC 8s
