This week's Red Stripe Deals covers the weather, global domination and sowing the fields

If you're new to Windows Phone, every week the Windows Phone Store slashes the pricing on one Xbox game, one app, and one independent gaming titles. Collectively these are your Red Stripe Deals.

This week we have an Xbox title where you try to dominate the world through battle and diplomacy, a weather app that is a one of our personal favorites, and a farming simulator that tests your skills are cultivating and managing crops.

Civilization Revolution: This week's Xbox deal tests your skills at global domination with Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution. You go toe to toe against some of history's greatest leaders as you wage war and conduct diplomacy.

You’ll need to collect resources, build new cities, research technologies, and either war against or form alliances with neighboring countries. You can choose from 16 different nations to play with as you strive to achieve one of four possible victory conditions: Technology, Economic, Cultural, and Domination (war).

There is a trial version available for Civilization Revolution with the full version on sale for $.99. You can find Civilization Revolution here in the (opens in new tab) Windows Phone Store.

Weather Flow: Weather Flow is one of our favorite weather apps and we're glad to see it highlighted in this week's Red Stripe Deals. Weather Flow is the creation of Gergely Orosz, who also brings us Cocktail Flow and AppFlow (both amazing apps), and is a wonderfully laid out weather app for both Windows Phone 8 and 7.x devices.

Weather Flow covers the basics (current conditions and extended forecast) in a visually appealing manner and includes lockscreen and Live Tile support to make the weather information easily accessible. If you're looking for a weather app for your Windows Phone that has a bit of pop to it, Weather Flow will be on the short list.

There is a trial version available for Weather Flow with the full version on sale for $.99. You can find Weather Flow here in the (opens in new tab) Windows Phone Store.

Farming Simulator: As the name implies, Farming Simulator is a Windows Phone 8 game where you manage a farm. You control everything from seeding your fields, harvesting the crops, and dealing with market prices.

Along the way you get to control a wide variety of farming equipment from tractors to harvesters and with your earnings you can upgrade to bigger and better vehicles.

There is now a trial version available for Farming Simulator with the full version slashed to the low price of $1.49 (regular price is $3.49). It is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices and you can find  Farming Simulator here in the (opens in new tab) Windows Phone Store.

Keep in mind that Red Stripe Deals only last a week so if you're on the fence about any of these three Windows Phone titles, now is your chance to save a little.

  • Bought Weather Flow, thanks!!
  • Bought weather flow earlier today when I checked! I hate buying 3rd party apps when there's a native app that does the job even if its very basic, but I had to make an exception.
  • Weather Flow is well worth it in terms of apps. I had free trialled Civilisation a while back and enjoyed it but couldn't justify the high price tag... 0.99 is well worth it! a really good red stripe deal week ^_^
  • Civilization is well worth it. To get all the achievements it took me 75 hours or more.
  • 75 hours!? Unreal. I just downloaded it now and am new to the series. Any tips?
  • There is a fast way to get the achievements can't recall the way but I believe you can che k out true achievements.com
  • Yeah I think I finished the game in less than 10 hours. Check out achievement sites for help.
  • Been waiting for Civ to go on sale.  Thanks for the heads-up!
  • Thanks to wpcentral and Microsoft, i now own weather flow!
  • Thanks to the NOVA release, my gaming cup for the month is full. Still, civilization is a cool game. Might consider getting that.
  • weatherflow is an awesome app, one of the best designed on WP8
  • Amazing Weather HD or Weather Flow, which is better?
  • I like Amazing Weather. Weather flow was always lacking for me, like I couldn't find a week forecast. I may have missed it though.
  • you can make live tile or lockscreen show a 5 day forecast
  • I'd go with Amazing Weather over WF
  • I find WF better outside of North America.
  • Thanks for sharing your opinions.
  • Brought weather flow. Beautiful app, well worth the money. Well done.
  • Is weather flow reliable? I bought amazing weather and its always off by 8+ degrees
  • Quite reliable here in India .. The forecast shown is pretty accurate
  • I find it reliable
  • Why can't we play games from the SD card it would save all of us so much space. I hate only storing games/apps on the SD card. I can't install them on the card only store them. So much wasted space.
  • patience is a must for WP user :)
  • Been waiting since 2010, with my HTC Trophy, upgraded to Lumia 822. Maybe by the end of the year. Not too bothersome. But it does say I have 3GB of space but gives me a low memory notice when I try to install big apps.
  • Is your other space really big? If it is you should try the app called "Shrink Storage", it helps me a lot (I have an 822 too).
  • Weather Flow is a must!
  • Aww yeah! I already own the Civs on PC, so it's not a "must have" for my phone but I was just saying to someone yesterday that I'd buy Civ if it was cheaper, and bam here it is!
  • Does weather flow or amazing weather have real-time, location)based updating and display? All the other weather apps I have used only display saved locations on the live tile
  • Not sure about Weather Flow but Amazing Weather HD does. There's an option in the app's settings to enable location-based weather and when you pin that to the start screen, the tile has a location icon, telling you that its not a saved location, that its actually location-based.
  • Yep, WeatherFlow can pin current locations and saved locations as well.
  • Weather Flow is amazing, i love it !

    Greetzz.
  • Had civilization since its release. Love it.
  • So..., is everything I buy for WP 7.8 now worthless once I upgrade to WP8, or will I be able to download WP8 equivalents for free?
  • For the most part you can re-download the apps. Some might not be compatible though.
  • Weather Flow is by far one of my favorite applications. Use the lockscreen everyday to keep up on weather by the hour.
