Where's the best place to buy Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition?

Microsoft vs. Steam

Overall, we think that the Microsoft Store is the best place for PC players to buy Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. This is because, on top of being able to purchase the game normally, Microsoft Store users will also get to play the game if they're a subscriber to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This service allows you to play hundreds of different games for a monthly fee, and while it usually costs $15/month, the service frequently goes on sale to as low as $1/month, making it an absolute steal. Also, if you happen to be a subscriber already, you can permanently buy the game for $15 as opposed to $20, thanks to Microsoft's discount.

If you're not interested in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, though, you may prefer to go with Steam. This is because Steam has deep and rich community features that allow fans to share tips, content, and more with each other with just a few clicks. Also, if Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition gets Steam Workshop support, you'll be able to delve into the world of modding easily and quickly.

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is an extensive remaster of the original RTS game from 2005, featuring new graphics, new 3D assets, new game modes, crossplay multiplayer between the Microsoft Store and Steam storefronts, and even a remastered soundtrack. Being able to play in 4K, enjoy a modernized score, and play as the Inca or the Swedes is a fantastic way to experience Age of Empires III like never before, so veteran players have a lot to look forward to here. The remaster is also excellent for newcomers to the series, too, since they won't have to deal with the jank of a 2005 game. Currently, it's slated to release on October 15, 2020, on Windows 10 PCs.
