Microsoft is now rolling out a cumulative OS update for those on Windows 10 for PC and tablets. The update, like ones in the past, are cumulative security and bug fixes that address ongoing issues with the operating system.

The OS update will happen on its own. However, you can also force check to get it now. Head into All Settings > Update & security > Check for updates. The update is listed as kb3124262.

If you are a Windows Insider for PC, you will not see this update, but there is usually a separate one that also delivers security and bug fixes that apply to the latest rs1_11102 release from January 21.

We'll update this article with any new information about the update if Microsoft releases any notes.

Update: Microsoft has now posted the KB article for this update (opens in new tab), however there is nothing substantial in it for notes

  • A security patch and a build 14251. Msft is on roll for Windows 10 PC insiders
  • What about mobile tho
  • Sooooooon Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Ten am Pacific time and it didn't happen. Not today.
  • I think that will take some time before mobile update comes out ....
  • There was a mobile insider firmware update earlier through the insider app
  • Gabe tweeted that there won't be mobile builds today.
  • What happened to the whole idea of keeping Mobile and PC on the same build.Micro is already falling being.
  • This is most likely because Microsoft is still busy getting Mobile done for general release. I would expect mobile and PC builds to get back in sync after the W10M release for older devices begins.
  • If you are a Fast Insider, it's called 14251. Downloading right now. The mobile update is promised for within the next few days.
  • That doesn't mean it translates into releasing both the same day. In the past, mobile and PC updates always had two or three builds between them, or a different build all together, meaning, not even in the same build number sequence.
  • Did he give any kind of time frame?  The situation on the 950 phones is desperate.  Any improvements would be a welcome blessing.
  • My 550 is still on .29 and needs firmware and OS updates. Not smooth at all like 8.1 on my 640.
  • Rea//y...bricked your phone, did it? O_o
  • Uhh yeah :| Ten on the 550 isn't swift how is that bricking my phone?
  • i have no issues with my 950
  • Me either
  • You're comparing two completely different phones.
  • Me either, outside of a few goodies from 8.1 still missing
  • Go and take the firmware update check first then the preview build through the mobile insider app

  • C'mon, guys.  Does every non-mobile thread in this forum really have to turn into a whine about mobile updates?
  • Yes,because Ten was suppose to merge both.
  • Actually, Windows 8 was supposed to merge both.
  • Yea MOb..........................................ile!!! today i was very disappointed with win10M , i am a BIG fan of it, but today i really needed the USB OTG feature on my L1520 but .........
  • I hope it solves my Store problem. After the last update to the Store app, it won't launch.
  • I started having that problem several Store app updates ago with just my user. The other two users can use the Store app just fine. This update did not fix that issue. There are lots of suggestions on how to fix it online but none have worked for me.
  • Do an inplace upgrade from same buid to same build. It will reinstall all your store apps leaving others unaffected. All your files and desktops app will be there. I was also having the same issue and tried every solution on internet. None worked except this. Thanks to windowsphonefans :) on fb who guided me...
  • So, errr, how do I do this? Any link? And do I really have to reinstall all my 'metro' games and apps?
  • You download the latest version of Windows 10 with the Media Creation Tool and upgrade through it. Basically what you're doing is upgrading from one version to the same. It may sound silly but it can fix many problems.
  • Ok. Thanks. But I want to be clear on what I lose and keep. Any idea?
  • You should be able to keep everything but the Media Creation Tool does tell you before installation if it encounters anything you aren't able to keep. Be sure to make a full backup beforehand anyway.
  • hi. sorry to bring this up again but the media creation tool i got only wants to download Windows 8.1 what do I do, please?
  • Just download the right version of the Media Creation Tool: https://www.windowscentral.com/e?link=https%3A%2F%2Fclick.linksynergy.co...
  • Firmware for Surface, too?
  • I hope this update fixes the issue where the store suddenly stops working on one of the user accounts. I recently had to remove and add a user account for the fourth time because of this issue. MS needs to get their **** together and fix this stupid issue.
  • there is a store update today
  • Good. Hope it fixed their ****** system
  • I upgraded then the store always fails to open for good. None of the solution on the internet worked. Thanks Microsoft
  • Downloading 1% 9:43 PM (GMT+3) Saudi Arabia
  • Edit: This cumulative update was pushed out to Insiders on the SLOW ring.
  • It was pushed out to non-Insiders.
  • Insiders are getting 14521, right now.
  • Again, there is a difference between slow and fast rings of Insider builds, currently the SLOW ring is on 1511 and just updated to build 10586.71
  • Before anyone asks the download size, it is 451MB on the Windows Update catalog for x64 version
  • It's much smaller if you installed all previous cumulative updates, though.
  • Which I have done, but this time I installed from the .msu file, feels 'cleaner' doing it that way. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • This did not fix the Store not working on one user account. Still cannot open up the Store. Last time I had to completly reinstall windows 10! Not going to do that this time. Hopefully they can fix it. Just not using the Store anymore on that user account. It will not update any of the apps either.
  • Have you considered fixing it with an inplace upgrade?
  • Is it going to fix the issues it caused from the last update? Touch doesn't work on my task bar when I put it at the top of the screen. Bluetooth mouse gets all wonkey after a while. It starts cursor starts flickering. Airplane mode turns on for no reason and battery drains faster.
  • Model of your device, so I can avoid to buy it.
  • I was hoping this would fix the Store (etc.) not working. Apparently not.
  • How do you get that "About Windows" screen?

  • Just search for "winver" on your PC.
  • Edge seems to be smoother now.
  • I'm on the Insider Slow Ring and I am getting this update right now.
  • This is NOT an Insider build.  Non-Insiders are getting this update so why would it not go out to Insiders on the Slow Ring?  You're not getting it because you're an Insider.  You're getting it because you're running an earlier build of Windows 10.
  • Anyone having an issue after the last update where their typecover no longer works at all (pretty sure the driver is somehow uninstalled and no longer recognized) and their dock (original sp3 dock) is no longer outputting to the display port? Tried my cover on my brothers sp3 and it worked so I know it's local to my machine...
  • And I tried restoring via an in-place upgrade twice. Once with the type cover connected, and once without. No luck at fixing either issue...
  • LAN connection quit working on the dock.
  • WHY IS THE COPYRIGHT STILL 2015?!?!?! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Well thank you MS, but that update broke my Windows Hello on my SP4. Glad I remembered the i PIN code.
  • Edge won't launch any more for me after this update.  Also, there are a bunch of errors in the event viewer.  Is this unique to me or are others having this problem? repeating errors in the event viewer: The server NLInternal.SharedRecoActivation did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. • I have resolved this issue but I can't say for sure what fixed it.  I found a few suggested solutions and tried them with no success, but following a reboot, things are working now.  I also had an issue with the cmd window throwing off an error when launched, but that is also gone.
  • What about the Store? I can't launch it after the last update to the Store app. Did you have any problem with it?
  • Mine will not recognize my SP3 typecover unless I disconnect/reconnect. Keeps telling me that downloads were installed but also keeps redownloading and telling me to restart then says it couldn't completely install. Love!
  • Update killed wired internet access on my desktop. But still working on WiFi.
  • F***d all 3 of my PCs up having to use system restore on all of them Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Same always happens to me. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I had a perfectly stable Windows 10 Pro x64 system running until this thing messed everything up. It took 90 minutes to install !!! It removed several critical drivers without warning and for no reason (I've re-installed the same drivers and they work fine) It introduced a new behaviour where the last printer driver used becomes the default. I work in a print shop environment with 8 different printers - this is incredibly unhelpful to me, isn't documented, and has taken me 2 hours to track down and turn OFF. I'm running two monitors off the same graphics card: one is OK, the other now blinks off for a few seconds everny now and then (just tracked this down to another driver having been deleted during the upgrade). The update also removed critical color management components - now reinstalled - without warning. Does anyone have a list of what the update fixes and what new features it forces upon us?
