The Windows Store now tells you which apps were 'built for Windows 10'

Microsoft has made some changes to the Windows Store, which will now inform you as to which apps were built as Universal Apps for Windows 10. If you've been hunting down apps that go well with Microsoft's latest desktop OS, it's now easier than ever to tell the gems apart. Simply view apps on the Windows Store and a "Built for Windows 10" notice will be present on said listings.

The change likely arrived in the latest update to the Windows Store app. It's a neat little addition to the store experience, enabling you to take full advantage of Universal Apps. Do note that if you do not yet see this on the Windows Store, you may need to update your app. Check for any updates, install them and then try again.

Thanks Mohammed Al Q. for the tip!

  • Very nice, I appreciate the effort they are making to make Windows 10 great.
  • Make Windows 10 great again!!
  • Nadella 2016!
  • Nutella 2016!!
  • This will encourage developers to actually make a Windows 10 app
  • There should be a way to filter and list them out by category.
  • They aren't making any efforts to make WXM great though.
  • Mobile version also?
  • Yes.
  • It doesn't show on mobile store... It still didn't update such.
  • Yes it does
  • Microsoft is concerned only about its PC division because of the market share it holds. Its very much concerned about phones, ios and android not Windows Phone.
  • They need to bring back the date of last update.
  • Neat addition!
  • Noice

  • For me as a developer, its nice to know. But as a user, what difference does it make?
  • He knows the app will probably perform better
  • Let's dispel with this fiction that Microsoft does not know what it is doing. They know exactly what they are doing! They are trying to make windows phones like the rest of phones.
  • Let's dispel with this fiction that Microsoft does not know what their doing. They know exactly what their doing! They are trying to make windows phones like the rest of all phones.
  • Why correct a comment when the correction was actually failing grammar-wise, while the original is correct already? At least right now, the original comment is fine. I do not know if it was edited.
  • I see what you did there. Now repeat it a few more times...
  • it it it
  • For the user who has continuum, it is important, if it is not 10 it won't support continuum at all.
  • This is what I thought of right away. Excited by this.
  • Though, while yes, you're right that if this tag is lacking, its guaranteed to not support continuum, the presence of this does not necessarily mean continuum *is* supported though.
  • Yes you are right, but it is diffucult to understand why the developer did not do the extra effort, because the application can handle the resolution in its desktop supported version, it should be the same or very close to support continuum.
  • As a person with a Windows phone, tablet, and PC, more than likely going to download the one built for Windows 10. On that note, it would be even better if you could filter for these types of apps.
  • Let's dispel with this fiction that Microsoft does not know what they're doing. They know exactly what they are doing! They are trying to make Windows Phones like the rest of the phones. They are trying to remove everything that made our phones great.
  • Oh shut up with that... Is it going to matter if you shout that here?
  • Re: iamsoldars,
Yes, "They're" removing features that made our phones great.
  • It gives me confidence in the app. I also always check when it was updated last and what the latest reviews say.
  • It should be an UWP app
  • Now only if they add the "Last Updated" information like it was on Windows 8/8.1 stores, it will be proper.
  • Also, the number of ratings in paranthesis after the stars.
  • ^^This!! And version number please
  • Yep it's absolutely ridiculous they don't show version and release date.
  • This is one of my biggest annoyances about Windows 10 Mobile. How hard can it be to implement this?! Microsoft is really slacking.
  • I'm on WP 8.1. I'm shocked to hear that "Last Updated Release Date", "number of ratings", and "version number" are not listed in the Windows 10 Store. The stars show, I hope. I use all this information to avoid the fake apps.
  • The Store app on WP8.1 is much nicer, overall, than the one on W10M. But then again, so are most things (Cortana, browser, messaging, etc.).
  • Yeah, I'm a little bummed that the W10 store doesn't show the "Last Updated" piece of metadata. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, I guess it doesn't really matter if the app works, but it would be nice to know if an app has been abandoned in 2013 before I spend money on it.
  • Now they need to fix the search in store... it's a total mess
  • Yup. They also need to rid the store of the thousands of fake apps. There are at least 5 fake TrueCaller apps on there, all with slightly different names. Microsoft should stop allowing the scammers from taking advantage.
  • Do your part and report the fake apps then. It makes their lives and our lives easier
  • That's nice. You know what would be nicer? The 3 things that have been constantly requested and upvoted in the feedback app: "Last Updated", "Version Number" and a recently updated list. It's times like this where it feels like MS doesn't pay attention to the feedback at all.
  • I think they hid those details on purpose.
  • they'll most likely include those once its beneficial for their branding. i get why its useful, but i can also see how it can hurt windows as a whole at this point.
  • I think it also require the latest build .107
  • No, because PC is only on .104 and the feature is also available there.
  • Doesn't work on .71
  • Instead of this, Microsoft should label apps as "UWP" or "Works in Continuum".
  • Why? My mother doesn't have a clue what Continuum or UWP is. But she knows her PC runs Windows 10. Jargon helps no-one. Except nerds.
  • Yes. It is better if it is simple.
  • I would prefer small logos for multiple devices, as they did before with the "old" universal.
  • Universal apps don't necessarily support continuum. Even if it was released on both mobile and desktop (which isn't a requirement to be considered universal surprisingly), continuum isn't necessarily supported. it requires developers to implement it.
  • They are DISCRIMINATING against WinRT and Silverlight application.... lol
  • Windows XP or GTFO :P
  • - Add also a Continuum compatible tag - Add last updated - Add history of updates - Proper changelogs And it will be perfect
  • Nothing is perfect :)
  • And watch list
  • That is a great
  • I like the way the did in the past the old icon "universal". They should add something similar now: Windows 10 logo, Windows 10 multiple devices logo (mobile, desktop, continuum).
  • Sadly windows 10 does not have a logo.
  • Do you think the average user, not us abide fans/devs/tech geeks, would know right away what a little icon means? Why not just spell it our with words?
  • Please add a filter to view only UWAs. This would be extremely helpful and give developers ever more incentive to update to UWAs.
  • This is actually a great idea... Next stop for you--> Feedback app.
It'll get a lot of upvotes and hopefully MS' attention
  • Will do.
  • Ok I added it to windows feedback. Please vote for this to get Microsoft's attention. Thanks.
  • Link?
  • They already have that section. It's called "best with windows 10"
  • The app is totally broken this morning for me. When I open it the app just blinks in and out and reloads over and over.
  • Do a soft reset
  • Is it available on W10m as well? Because that's where it is needed most. The promise of continuum and WinRT apps performing better than old SL (SilverLight) apps on Windows 10.
  • Yes it is. Right below the share button.
  • well, its a step in the right direction, but it doesn't imply continuum support. i still prefer universal apps w/o continuum over legacy windows apps, so it does help there, but they really need to push continuum-supported apps too.
  • Technically you already had it since the move from windowsphone.com
  • I updated my L930 to .107 this morning and it's a bit lagging... Apps crashing randomly and store doesn't find any update.... I tried hard reset but the store still can't find automaticly the updates, i have to go manualy to every app.... Any solution?
  • Go back to 8.1.
  • Go to ios
  • Buggy. Won't work with WiFi. Says no connection. With Mobile data it works fine though -_-
  • might be a stupid question, but you're certain your wifi has internet connection? also, did they say this worked on w10m as well? i was under the impression it was only for the Windows Store on PC.
  • Turn off your data and WiFi then do a soft reset. Then turn them back on.
  • When on WiFi it shows none of my apps as installed and does the blinking etc. When I disconnect from wifi it seems to work correctly.
  • All we need now is the area where it tells the last time the app was updated.
  • I have a feeling that won't happen anytime soon. Many apps have not been updated for years and if I was Microsoft I wouldn't want to display that.
  • The store for Windows 8.1 has that option. Don't know why it wasn't brought over.
  • I am trying to send feedback but the windows feedback app is messed up also. It allows me to use the dropdown selections but not type in the comments to explain the issue
  • Please make a Fl Studio Mobile for windows phone
  • ****** apps
  • Please make a Fl Studio Mobile app
  • Built for Win 10 should be selection criterium for browsing the Store.
  • This. And there should be a separate app category for this too.
  • Thanks Mohammad AI Q
  • Welcome buddy ;)
  • Can you search for them specifically?
  • Not yet, unfortunately.
  • Super addition!!!
  • Great job...at least consumer will find easily a unified apps.....!
  • I want back the feature to manually download and install apps and games from the web store to my lumia.
  • Satya Nadella is the key player behind radical changes in Microsoft
  • It would be better if the app page showed the exact date when it was last updated.
  • Not sure that will be happening soon.
  • I wonder what defines it as "built for windows 10" because some apps show it, but then there's others that are uwp apps (Pandora for example) that don't show it....and Pandora supports continuum so I'm super confused
  • Waste still now we don't know wen they ll launch 10 mobile
  • Nothings a waste
  • Wp is already dead bro... Forget it go for iphone6s...u will get all apps and games
  • Nice addition, but would be better if Last updated was also displayed
  • Most win10 mobile apps do not have that statement. Check Pandora, Dropbox etc..
  • we will need that for windows 10 mobile too
  • They have to add developers to cant update without putting what's new this .
  • It's about time. Should have been in place when win 10 was released.
  • MS apps will have 'Built for iOS' notice.
  • Mayor improvement. Thanks god! Finally! True that. Oh no, they didn't? Yes they did! Win 10 finally rules the universe! Ooh yes! Let's all clap hands and sing Hallelujah! ... Really? Really Microsoft? God help us all!
  • Ohhh.. Let them develop apps and games first... All these are useless
  • I'm actually running Windows 10 Mobile preview for developers on my Lumia 640 XL and this latest build has brought along some stability, sort out app-gate and this will definitely be the best OS in the world! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • So why are u posting with your android? Lol
  • Sweet, now I can find out all 12 UWP apps in the store!
  • Useless because none of available on Windows 8.1 anyway. There is no filter as well.
  • They are taking too long to release the update. I'm getting tired of the wait smh
  • But they cant tell us when Windows 10 update will be available nice
  • Saturated Nutella!
  • So if I see this in the store, that means they it is a Universal App and WILL work on Windows 10 and Windows Phone/Windows Mobile 10 ?
