Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is free to play this weekend on Xbox One

If you've been waiting for a chance to try out Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, now is as good a time as any, as the game is free to play (opens in new tab) this weekend on Xbox One.

The free bundle was first spotted and posted on Reddit without an official comment from Microsoft, causing some confusion over whether the game was now free, or whether this was simply a weekend promotion. Xbox Support later chimed in on Twitter, noting that the collection is indeed free-to-play for this weekend only.

In any case, if you want to give the Handsome Collection a shot, you'll get to try out both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Do note, however, that the free weekend bundle is located in a separate listing as the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Unlock Bundle. The game's usual listing is priced at $24.99.

  • Well that is unfortunate
  • For me too... Working all weekend.
  • These games take more time to play than 2 days
  • wow, when did it come down to $25 normally?  I remember only seeing it as $59.99
  • Yeah, I know that it was DEFINITELY $60 recently because I've been eyeing the game since launch but couldn't justify the price. I already beat Borderlands 2 on X360, so i wasn't about to spend $60 for a last gen game that only got modest reviews (the Pre-Sequel). I'm definitely down to go back to the 'Lands again. I found the first two versions to be a really fun games.
  • Bummer. I got excited last night when I saw it in my queue.  Figured it was some sort of store hiccup ala "Bank favor in your error, collect 2 free xbox games"
