BOGO Reminder: Get a Lumia 950 XL and get a Lumia 950 for free in Canada and the U.S.

Reminder: In case you missed this story earlier in the week we're giving this story another bump as we're still getting tips on it.

Microsoft is once again offering a free Lumia 950 with the purchase of a 950 XL (opens in new tab) in both the U.S. and Canada. Should you be on the hunt for either device and happen to reside in Canada, you'll also be able to snag a unit for a friend or a member of the family.

The promotion itself kicks off today and will last until June 27, so you have some time to consider available options and place an order.

  • Smells something new is coming :P may b a surface phone.. Thats why the hurry!
  • Smells like low sales .So they want to get rid of stocks. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Its all depends on your nose... Either you have a fanboy nose or a jealous nose with a stinky smell which no reason wanders in this beautiful rose garden of windows..
  • Lol
  • Right on target,
  • Heh heh funny but you still get a down vote... :P
  • Its all about opinions... That could be one more person with a jealous nose
  • Plz stahp
  • Here we got another one
  • Companies don't like losing money like this even if they have a new product on the horizon. Common sense plus sales numbers all indicate that this is because of low sales. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Yep......another MS fail
  • Desperate times call for desperate measures
  • The Elite X3 is coming soon so they probably thought people won't but the 950 afterwards. Though considering the promotion, it'll still be much cheaper than the X3
  • Yes people are eagerly waiting for the elite X3 but the problem is that hp x3 is enterprise focussed
Availability will be limited for general consumers
  • If you lucky, the surface phone will come out in 2017
  • I believe that its coming October. But some kind of announcement at the windows 10 anniversary.
  • Forget about that surface phone ...
  • Hopefully the sub 5" screen they spoke about
  • Just get a feature phone at that point. Even 5" is small for a smartphone. It isnt 2010 anymore. 5" phones are compact these days, they aren't Dell Streaks. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Might not have had this problem if they didn't confusingly price the damn thing out reach in the first place.
  • True. If the XL was launched at $500 and 950 at $400, it would've fared better.
  • Couldn't agree more. Way overpriced especially considering the market share, app gap, etc. In order to sell a phone for this price Microsoft, you need to have a sustained market share first. Why should i spend $700 on a windows phone when all signs are pointing to EOL. Even Microsoft themselves stated that their priorities for Phones have changed. My hard earned cash is better spent on platforms that have future. Windows Phone at the moment doesn't have that future. And NO, I'm not falling for that hype anymore. From my HTC ExCalibar to my Htc hd7 (wp7), to my Lumia 920 (wp8.1).
  • It needs to be done worldwide
  • Yeah... At home (Belgium), we are 4 with the Samsung Ativ S... It would be great to change it for the Lumia 950/950XL ^^
  • Clamming for this in the UK ! My gold 930 will go straight onto eBay no reserve
  • Nope. Waiting for that OnePlus 2/ OnePlus 3 ROM
  • Bring this to the UK, my wife and I need new phones
  • I'm interested to see this, what's the hold up?
  • they need to spread these phones.  This happens when u stay exclusive to ATT.
  • The XL isn't on any carrier though...
  • The problem, as always, is that the carriers don't want the phones, not that Microsoft doesn't want the carriers. I can't believe people are still confused by this.
  • Customers don't want the phones, which is why carries don't want to waste shelfspace with them, which is why carriers don't want the phones.
  • It's like they won't just take the initial hit and price lowish on release to have a decent install base. Instead the next clueless MBA comes along, prices it high to match Apple and Samsung topend prices, and then they end up crashing the prices a year later in the next bold, sweeping business decision, and end up with no sales and a damaged, unpredictable brand.
  • I couldn't say better !
  • You got it. Totally inexplicable. The whole Windows Phone saga is a Harvard Business School case study on how not to roll out a product.
  • They would probably do this if they still cared about windows mobile market share. They don't anymore. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Right on the money. They should hire you. These people have lost touch with their customer / fan base completely.
  • I really hate those marketing strategy. I bought my Lumia 950XL in Hong Kong MS store and got no free display dock but just a phone case, and the retail price is the highest among all possible channels at that time. It's getting price cut after half a year to 50% of the original price and even get 2 "flagship" tier phones at once...
  • Next time, I will wait half a year to buy the flagship phones.
  • I think that's what killed me last time. Alot of people where and are waiting for the surface phone. They need to announce and drop it within a week.
  • This. This. This. Microsoft desperately needs to work on their announce and release scheduling.
  • Sometimes it's crazy how the price of tech can bring things down. Keyword is can...
  • its bit disappointing but it happens to many other phones too.... I purchase Note 5 when it was launched last year, now its available at half price. Same with Galaxy S7 Edge is now reduced by 30% at least!
  • Well it is normal to reduce prices after a while, because the newer and cooler phones come and no one will pay full price for an outdated model. In phones this tends to happen fairly quickly in general.
  • Would buy this if they bring it to Europe. Tobad these good promotions only happen on the other side of the ocean.
  • Didn't somewhere in Europe get this promotion a few months ago?
  • Why is this only in Canada and US? Why? Why? Why? WHYYYYYYY?????
  • My question is why are we letting the Canadians in on this? These deals should be kept US only :)
  • Why? Are u one of those who think that US is the centre of the world and anything and everything should be US only? Even if they don't appreciate it?
  • Pretty sure he's kidding.
  • You mean the US is not the center of the world?
  • Why US only, it should be for you only
  • The solution is simple, come to the US!
  • Microsoft enough alread bring out yur "Surface" brand smart phones. You have had plenty of time design and rest them bring em on. Or Please bring out a verizon flagship Surface smart phone too or at least give the Verizon "Icon" the legal update to Windows 10 Mobile aniversary uodate !!
  • They will kill the Surface Phone before release. By that time next year they will have .1% market share and a comeback will be impossible without something revolutionary like the iPhone in 2007. Windows 10 Mobile is not that at all. Microsoft will kill it next year due to reality. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I gave 740€ in Greece to own a 950xl dual sim without a gift. Now they an extra phone for free. It's unfair.
  • Wah
  • Again?
  • Right?! Very surprised to read this. Maybe some of the people who missed the window originally will have a chance now.
  • Normal prices have already dropped heavily in Europe. But still way too much considering that resale and usage value is ~ zero.
  • Don't forget how bad Microsoft's support for Lumia devices became in Europe after Microsoft has decided to oursource hardware support for the entire European Union to iQor in Hungary. My Lumia 950 arrived there one week ok. The only Status update came last night stating that it has arrived at Servicecenter. Not even Microsoft themself could tell me more about the current status since they don't get more informations than their customers...
  • Hello, would anyone know if this offer is/will be available in the UK?
  • They're unlocked, just have a friend in the states order you some!
  • When in Australia
  • +1
    +830
  • Bad title, offer only in Canada.
  • Nope, offer available in US too!
  • They just updated the store. I work nights, so the US store must not have updated at that time. But I see it now. It kind sucks, because I just bought a 950XL from Bestbuy.
  • We need this offer in Germany too.
  • Jawohl, aber bei MS haben die Entscheidungsträger irgendwie dicken Wollen vorm Augen und können nicht über den Teichrand blicken.
  • Need this in India.. Would at least buy 2. May be MS should fragment the offer across the globe on their website
  • There was significant price drop for 950XL, around 33k
  • I bought them the last time they had this sale, worked out good for me .
  • MS...launch that offer in India and see emptying your ugly lot quicker than US or Canada
  • This message should reach Microsoft asap, cause this is true in all capacity
  • Wen in Europe is the final countdown?
  • I wish the promotion were buy a Surface Pro 4 and get a 950 for free! I do not need two phones
  • I have a Surface Pro 4 and a 950 I'm willing to sell you. It's an i5 128GB/4Gb version. Two months old, like new. $900 and you get the 950 and a 128GB microSD card. Paypal only.
  • Lol my 950 still for sale in forums :)
  • Where can I get the color cases in the picture with the Microsoft logos (not Mozo)?
  • Czech O2 has Lumia 950 (9995 Kč, cca $416) / 950 XL (11995 Kč, cca $499) on a sale, including Display Dock.
  • How...cheap.
  • I love my 950XL. Win10 is definitely getting better. However, there is no rhyme or reason to the marketing and pricing of these phones, whatsoever. They do zero marketing, then they over-produce, which, (surprise!) leads to promotions like this one. Whatever you think would be logical, MS does the exact opposite. People actually get paid for this? WTF?
  • I just want to know the following about Lumia 950XL and 950: 1. Will they offer NFC Tap to Pay? Y/N 2. For the dual sim: Can I have two different carriers? Y/N 3.  Will Microsoft continue to provide technical support including updates to these two models for the next 5 years? 4.  Are there any logical reasons why I shouldn't buy this phone?  (FYI, price is not an issue for me)   Thanks and cudos to anyone who answers these questions.
  • I'm no techie, but ... 1. Daniel Rubino did tap-to-pay with his preview Starbucks app, so I'm guessing the answer is yes 2. I think the phones only work on the AT&T network, but might be wrong on that 3. My guess is yes, they will support the phone 4. I think the platform is improving a great deal, battery life much better, and the camera is great on my 950 XL. I guess it depends on whether you like the platform.
  • 1. Yes, but it's not fully ready yet. 2. I don't know. 3. Sort of...if you believe the whole "Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, everything that follows will simply be updates". 4. There is NO earthly reason for you to waste your money on the 950 or 950XL...and I say this as someone whose household has two of the 950--and hate them.
  • 1. yes comeing soon TM
    2. yes but you have to pick a sim for data other sim is 2G only from my testing. also sim 2 can not send or get mms
    3. 5y most likely not but for two years I think so. if price doesn't matter this shouldn't.
    4. if money isn't the problem then when you are done get the next phone you want.
  • 1. Yes. It just became available for the fast-ring insiders: http://www.windowscentral.com/wallet-20-nfc-tap-pay-now-rolling-out-wind... 2. I believe so. It works that way with any other Dual Sim phones. 3. Windows 10 will be updated for free for the next 10 years, so updates are covered. 4. The only logical reason would be that you don't like the windows ecosystem and the app-gap is a real deal for you. In specs, the phone is as good as any other flagship. Fast, sharp, pretty and powerful.   I'll try to jump into this deal with someone who wants the 950... I want the XL.
  • There seems to be some confusion in answering your second question. The answer is, yes, you can use sim cards from two different GSM carriers, as the phones on the BOGO deal are all factory unlocked. But, as was correctly mentioned, only one sim can access Data at a time, the other one will only have 2G. You can select which one in the SIM settings.
  • I cant believe people actually consider buying this garbage! Seems like they've got nothing better to do with their money. But each to their own, I guess. I'm just saying you're investing in a dead platform noone is interested in. Of course Microsoft and Windows Central will continue to say how this is all "part of their plan" towards better future, but WAKE UP, people! It's over...
  • I cant believe you actually comment on this so call gargabe deal! Seems like you've got nothing better to do with your time :) . But you are right, to each their own. I love my 950xl I bought from the last BOGO deal which I shared with a friend. So at least there are two people who are interested in this platform, right? It has all the apps I need, plus tap to pay, and a superb camera. I do own a few Android tablets, and absolutely hate them. iOS is ok, but their prices are not =))
  • Just go with a co-buyer. Pay 50/50 and take the one you want. I would but I think I'm done with WP (still own 3)
  • Don't give up yet.
  • Eh. they can always come back. At this point, that is the plan. Hopefully there will be something to come back to.
  • Actually Microsoft's secret strategy is to make it convenient to move in from windows phone, you'll get more features on there
  • I went for the deal when I came around the first time. I needed something to hold on until surface phone, it's a great phone but still hate the on screen button ( not practical.) If one have an hold windows phone that's a great deal until something else comes out; I won't be in a rush (standing in line) to get a new phone.
  • I dislike the on screen buttons too.
  • I went with the first offer and luckily sold the XL soon on Amazon. I am very happy with 950 after the updates. The battery drain issue is gone once I turned NFC and Hey Cortana off. No heating and great experience overall.
  • Oh, great. Buy a piece of junk and get a smaller piece of junk for free!  Nice.  (we own two of the 950 wastes-of-money)
  • Nonsense. They're great phones. As long as you understand the app deficiencies and like WP, I have no problem recommending them.
  • Don't worry he's just a pissed off consumer. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android (V10 or 5x)
  • Butthurt fanboy spotted!
  • Me and the wife now getting new phones!
  • My wife and I are now ...
    or
The wife and I... Sorry, I couldn't resist. You must be more important? Best Wishes
  • Perfect timing.
  • Man I wish someone would buy my 950 so that I can buy this and get the 950XL as I have always wanted this phone..
  • Buy xl and sell small on to someone :D
  • Selling my new in box 950 if anyone is interested.
  • So if I get this deal and trade in my Lumia 920, I wonder if I get the xl @$500 with the free 950?
  • Curious about this as well.
  • I can confirm that for the Microsoft Store near me that I was able to trade in my Lumia 920 and get the $200 credit towards the 950XL, while also getting the 950 free.
  • Wow $200 for a Lumia 920, is that US$? Great price for that phone on a trade in
  • In Canada it's $200 CDN, in the US it's $200 US. Can only be applied to the purchase of a 950XL or 950 though. They're honestly not even picky about the conditon it's in either.
  • I did this last time with my 925 trade in plus the same BOGO deal. It depends on the MS Store if they will accept both deals together. If you are near multiple stores, try to call ahead to check--if you can get the direct number rather than a call center.
  • Im more curious about an online sale. I'd trade my 1020 in, but only if I could use it on the BOGO Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I'm not sure how that could work. You have to mail in your phone for the rebate. By the time it shipped, was assessed, and the credit was added to your account, the BOGO sale would likely be long over. Perhaps you can trade in at a local store for the rebate, but it seems unlikely you could use that credit online. Even if you could, you're already at the store, why not simply buy the phones there?
  • Closest store is 2 hours away :/ Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Just make a day of it - Stop off in the morning to grab the phones and then check out the local sights.
  • Anyone up for getting the 950? I want to buy it and keep the XL... I don't need two phones.
  • Wish I could get it. But I am in India Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Send me a PM
  • I'd be willing Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Another promotion?
  • Soon they will be handing these out free. Imagine it.  Get a free Windows Phone and $100 store credit free when you get a free Windows Phone.
  • This couldn't be better timing! My beloved 1020 only lasts a half day now (old battery) and I have wanted the 950xl for ages. Purchased this morning and will sell the 950. I couldn't be happier with wp!
  • If you are interested, send me a PM
  • PM sent.
  • Anyone willing to buy 950? I want to buy and keep the 950xl.
  • I have one advice to potential new owners of this awesome phone: invest in a protective case, or DO NOT DROP your phone. Mine got dropped from about 4 ft (stroller's cupholder), it hit the ground at the edge and the screen was seriously cracked (like my heart) even when I have a protective film on. Cost to repair is around $200 at a 3rd party service center.
  • and don't put your phone in a cup holder of course :)
  • @awsumsauce- please proceed with the online trade-in, give you details and you will receive promo coupon via email almost instantly.... you can use this code to buy 950 and you have a week to send your old phone via a prepaid FedEx. I haven't been able to checkout my cart due to payment issue. But it might work for you.
  • Anybody have an extra Lumia 950 they don't need? :D
  • Fire sale! Fire sale! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • This offer needs to be made available in the UK as well
  • Just bought a 950 XL less than a month ago. Should've held out just a little longer.
  • I'd like to buy a 950 all right... Waiting for some offer like this. Sadly I am not in USA
  • When in UK?
  • edit: right, BOGOF is buy one get one free.
  • How about offering it as well here in Saudi Arabia?!?! My 640XL always shuts down. Missing my 1520 though.
  • Any deals on Mozo accessories? Microsoft store only has one light brown leather case for $50. And I dont see all the old colors that Mozo had earlier on their website too. Any links other than Mobilefun please.
  • Great deal... But I don't need two phones, just want the 950. Nobody going to buy the xl in my town... Haven't seen another windows phone in years.
  • Don't give up.
  • interested to see price after this deal because in europe xl cost under 400 incl tax
  • Lol if anyone doesn't need the 950, I'm always open!
  • So, can I trade in my 1520 and use that 150$ towards this buy one get one free? Posted via Spaceship One
  • Yes, you can.
  • Why did they have to call it 950 would get one but its called 950 for those not in the now numbers mean a lot so 9+5+0 still equals 5 so no thanks 640 is fine 1520 is fine 1320 like I have is fine but nothing adding to 11, 5, or two ... Haha now research that
